QISG is seeking staff civil engineering professionals interested in working to support large-scale engineering and construction projects throughout North America by providing civil site design solutions to our construction partners and clients.About this RoleA Staff Civil Engineer within QISG is involved in a variety of projects with a focus on civil site, access, and drainage design and an emphasis on design-build delivery methods for large-scale energy substation and transmission-related projects. Collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team — including civil, structural, geotechnical, construction management, and construction experts — the Staff Civil Engineer plays a crucial role in providing civil and drainage design solutions on projects; responsibilities include supporting design production, contributing to the development of construction drawings and specifications, and engineering support during construction. This role is an office-based position with a primary focus on executing civil design that includes permitting support, site layout, grading design, stormwater analysis, survey coordination, and civil construction inspections. The Staff Civil Engineer will be expected to apply standard and advanced engineering principles, under the direct oversight of a Professional Engineer, to solve complex problems. He/she will receive guidance and mentoring from project and/or senior level professionals. A successful candidate is able to utilize sound engineering judgement, data collected by themselves or others, and digital technologies to develop economical solutions to support civil construction and communicate effectively with project management, technical, and construction personnel.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute assignments requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out civil engineering tasks. Develop civil construction specifications.Support of substation and transmission line physical design consisting of layout, conduit, grounding, site and work pad development, and erosion and sediment control.Perform basic stormwater calculations to size culverts, ditches, and stormwater retention/detention facilities using stormwater modeling software.Coordinate with multi-discipline design teams including geotechnical, geological, structural, transmission line, substation, GIS, and construction management team members. Develop written reports and/or provide verbal communication of information in a professional and appropriate manner. Work under supervision of Project Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Project Manager in a professional office setting. Perform occasional site visits to project sites located throughout North America. Work under supervision of Engineering Director and/or a Senior Engineer in a professional office setting.
