Network Development Engineers partner with our broader Infrastructure organization on configurations standards and tools, and collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, and also deploy and sustain networking software tools. Our data center networks provide high availability, high performance solutions for aggregating server racks; carrying the traffic and trust of our AWS customers. As part of this mission the team designs and develops solutions to onboard new platforms, improve existing software and deliver solutions to remove human effort from these processes. Key job responsibilities Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation. u2022 Create and implement changes on the network. u2022 Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at higher volume. u2022 Lead network projects in the areas of network sustaining engineering, network deployment/implementation, network scaling, technology refresh, best practices application, and/or network optimization. u2022 Sustain Amazon Web Servicesu2019 next generation networks for significant AWS customers by providing critical network support to diagnose, mitigate impact, and resolve large-scale networking events. u2022 Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configurations issues; including necessary low level application interaction, Unix systems, and new age networking software tools. u2022 Drive and support innovation from Top of Rack to the Network Border and everything in between. u2022 Partner with our broader Network/Infrastructure organization in the areas of network engineering, configurations standards, and tools. u2022 Work closely with our Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, as well as assist with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools. u2022 Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies. u2022 Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes. u2022 Collaborate with highest tier escalation engineers/resolvers. u2022 Create and review documentation and process regarding network implementation/deployments, recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc. u2022 Participate in an on-call rotation with your team. A day in the life NDEs in the Core Networking organization have a wide range of responsibilities: we work with internal partners to develop and implement the next-gen platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support with these platforms driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blue print at our scale allowing our engineers to develop solutions to the complex challenges that we face daily. Our team develops tooling that provides the required visibility and control of traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of events to minimize the impact to our customers during events. About the team AWS Core Networking is focused on building Data Centers and the network that allows Data Centers to function efficiently. We own the solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and Data Centers to be interconnected. Core Networking's goal is to balance efficiency, performance and reliability to allow customers access to their applications and data. Our current network size is >10Pbps of inter data center traffic over >30k devices worldwide and our team is structured to create and evolve these products and solutions while providing highly available, secure and scalable transport for multiple customer fabrics globally. Working at AWS in the Core Networking Team Meet Matt, VP, Core Networking --- Meet Kensie, Network Development Engineer --- Qualifications- 4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience - 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience - 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experiencePreferred Qualifications- Hands-on experience with architecture, design, development, validation, installation, deployment, and customer support of Fiber Optics DWDM networking platforms from vendors like Infinera, Cisco, Tellabs, Nokia Siemens, Nortel/Ciena, and others. - Proficient in major optical and IP technologies such as DWDM, SONET/SDH, OTN, IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, etc. - Possess Scripting skills or have desire to learn them; specifically, Python, Perl, or Shell (bash, ksh, csh).
