If so, the Metro Nashville Health Department would love to see your application for Kennel Assistant 2 This position is responsible for the daily care of animals - providing appropriate food and water, grooming, bathing, and exercising the animals in our care. Our Kennel Assistant 2 also monitors the behavior and health of animals, and reports all health, behavior or temperament issues to the Kennel Supervisor. Typical Duties + Assists shelter patrons, animal control officers and outreach staff with animal handling, intake, and evaluation. + Assists with transferring and relocating animals to and from personal and department vehicles, and to and from cages and kennel runs. + Completes intake and care reports, maintains daily log sheets and inventories, and performs other record keeping as required. + Assists with medical treatments as directed, including euthanasia of animals; assists patrons and staff with disease prevention and reduction efforts. + Responds to patron inquiries related to animal health education and related programs; provides humane education pamphlets or materials. + Performs routine keyboard/computer operations on standard office equipment. Supports and participates in departmental response to disaster and emergency events. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma and at least 3 years of professional animal care or animal control experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Governmentu2019s employment-based immigration programs. Must be a Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET), or obtain that certification within six months of hire. NOTICE: State regulations prohibit anyone with a criminal conviction of any kind from obtaining CAET. Must have and be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic animal care standards, including safe animal handling procedures for domestic and wild animals, as well as the proper use, secure storage, and disposal of lethal chemicals, syringes and related equipment. Vaccinations Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations. Working Environment/Physical Demands: Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and reoccurring basis, including restraint of animals of varying size, age, and physical condition. Must use protective clothing or gear. May risk exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals, and animals/wildlife, including exposure to animal bites, scratches, and diseases such as Rabies, Ringworm, Lyme disease and Zoonosis. Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associateu2019s degree as well as some lead or supervisory experience.
