ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES : + Participates in the negotiation of NJ TRANSIT's strategic/legislative/regulatory/capital policy positions with external parties, including state Senators and Assembly members and their staff, and transportation policy organizations, such as APTA, AAR, and the Regional Plan Association etc., as well as state agencies such as DOT, DEP, and stakeholder groups, including the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters. + Analyzes, develops and presents public policy issues for internal consideration and potential external consideration. + Recommends strategies and helps to track, tailor and move state legislation of interest to NJ TRANSIT through the New Jersey Legislature. + Regularly represents NJ TRANSIT at the State Capital during Legislative sessions, Committee meetings and other Statehouse events and activities, interacting with Legislators and Legislative staff. + Supports the Senior Director in tracking all proposed legislation relevant or impacting NJ TRANSIT. + Participates in NJ TRANSIT's coalition and coordination with other transit agencies/interest groups and with elected officials to execute NJ TRANSIT strategic/legislative/regulatory/capital initiatives. + Supports Senior Director in handling all state government relations requests and responsibilities, including correspondence with elected officials, development of annual State Budget Briefing Book, Legislative testimony and other tasks. + Analyzes and implements proposed federal and state regulations and other special projects in response to statutory, regulatory mandates. + Identifies issues impacting public transportation (public policy related). Recommends action plans for Executive Management review/consideration. + Supports other members of the Government Relations team as directed by the Senior Director of the Chief in responding to other Government and External Affairs needs and assignments, including supporting public hearing and information session efforts and responding to requests from local or other officials. + Works on special projects as assigned by the Senior Director or Chief, Government & External Affairs.
