POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of Dental Director, Registered Dental Assistant will be responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support in a clinical unit(s) and/or affiliated practices, working alongside dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technicians. The Registered Dental Assistant must be knowledgeable in all dentistry procedures, clinic infection control procedures, cleaning and sterilization, tray setup, and materials. This position will require travel between clinic sites. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: u2022 Place sealants on teeth approved by the dentist. u2022 Perform coronal polishing as directed by the dentist. u2022 Place bases, liners, bonding agents. u2022 Chemically prepare teeth for bonding. u2022 Place, adjust, and finish direct provisional restorations. u2022 Adjust dentures extra-orally. u2022 Remove excess cement from surfaces of the teeth with a hand instrument. u2022 Mouth mirror inspections of the oral cavity, to include charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth. u2022 Organizes and prepares trays, set up and lays out instruments for dental procedures. u2022 Preps patients and handles instruments and other materials to be used during dental procedures. u2022 Obtains vital signs and monitors patients for complications. u2022 Questions patients about their medical history and recording the information for Dentistu2019s reference. u2022 Obtains patientsu2019 dental history and records. u2022 Ensures health history is updated and scanned in to eCW system. u2022 Exposes and processes digital radiography or traditional x-rays. u2022 Practices radiation safety at all times when using dental radiographs operators. u2022 Takes impressions of patientsu2019 teeth for casts. u2022 Uses suction and swabs to keep patientsu2019 mouths clear and dry during procedures. u2022 Applies topical anesthetic to patientsu2019 mouths. u2022 Removes stitches. u2022 Makes temporary crowns/ restorations as instructed by the dentist. u2022 Advising patients on dental care. u2022 Making patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment. u2022 Cleans up following procedure, disposes of all waste in an appropriate fashion, and disinfects area after each patient and sets up for next patient in accordance with established procedures. u2022 Sterilizes dental instruments and equipments u2022 Maintains an inventory of dental instruments, equipment, and supplies in the dental operatory. u2022 Organizes supplies and equipment to minimize loss and Amergisize utilization. u2022 Reports equipment malfunctions to direct supervisor and follows up with repair technicians as needed. u2022 Schedules appointments, maintains records, sends bills, answers phones, and other office duties. u2022 Performs regular audits to ensure that no expired materials exist in the patient care areas. u2022 Ensure compliance with policies and procedures and regulatory agencies rules and regulations. u2022 Provides patient education and treatment planning information as directed. u2022 Assesses emergency situations and provides necessary and proper response when appropriate in accordance with emergency protocols u2022 Promotes positive working relationships with community agencies and with other departments. u2022 Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relationships with staff, volunteers and the public, portraying the mission of T.H.E. u2022 Promotes delivery of quality patient care. u2022 Ability to perform four handed dentistry techniques. u2022 Work in conjunction with staff dentists/dental director to develop and implement preventive dental activities for the community. u2022 Knowledge of patient scheduling procedures. u2022 Ability to plan work duties to ensure dental clinic efficiency. u2022 And all other duties as assigned. Essential Skills and Experiences u2022 Provide strong customer service to staff and community. u2022 Proven organizational and problem solving skills. u2022 Able to track details and manage multiple projects simultaneously. u2022 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written). u2022 Basic understanding of financial/budgeting process. u2022 Ability to handle and track details and verify accuracy. u2022 Completes work on time with quality results and can manage multiple interruptions. Education and Qualifications: u2022 Must hold a current Registered Dental Assistant license from the State of California. u2022 High school diploma or GED (preferred 2 years of college). u2022 Current CPR Certification u2022 Have Radiation ( X-ray) Certificate u2022 Have Coronal polishing credentials u2022 Have sealant placement credentials u2022 Radiation Safety Certification or completion of radiation safety course approved u2022 Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. u2022 A valid California Driver's license, and access to insured automobile. u2022 Flexible, mature individual who is capable of decision making and problem solving. u2022 Ability to work with all levels of management. u2022 Ability to work effectively and collaboratively. u2022 Advanced computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, email, etc. Experience using electronic health records preferred. u2022 Ability to work with people of diverse cultural, educational, social, and economic backgrounds. u2022 Fluency in Spanish highly desirable.
