Job Summary: Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. he Vascular Access Registered Nurse is a specialized RN responsible for the assessment, insertion, management, and maintenance of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), midline catheters, and other vascular access devices. This role supports safe, timely, and evidence-based vascular access while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.Key Responsibilities / Essential FunctionsClinical PracticePerform ultrasound-guided insertion of PICC lines and midline catheters in accordance with policy, scope of practice, and evidence-based standardsAssess patients for appropriate vascular access device selectionVerify catheter tip placement using approved technology or radiographic confirmation per policyProvide troubleshooting for vascular access complications (occlusion, infiltration, phlebitis, infection, dislodgement)Perform dressing changes, line maintenance, and catheter removalsEnsure compliance with CLABSI prevention bundles and infection control practicesConsultation & CollaborationServe as a clinical resource for nursing, physicians, and advanced practice providersParticipate in multidisciplinary rounds as indicatedProvide recommendations regarding vascular access planning and escalationEducationEducate patients and families on vascular access device care and precautionsProvide staff education related to device selection, maintenance, and complication preventionDocumentation & QualityAccurately document procedures, assessments, and patient education in the electronic medical recordParticipate in quality improvement initiatives related to vascular access outcomesAssist with data collection for CLABSI and other performance metricsMinimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: · Uses common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick· Understands technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels· Uses eyes, ears, hands and fingers with skill· Acts quickly in an emergency, rendering appropriate life-saving measures· Communicates with people· Change from one duty to another frequently· Follow and/or give precise instructions· Records and interprets information accurately· Able to care for patients of all ages· Demonstrates leadership skill / ability· Current in BLSReasoning, Mathematical and Language Development are indicative of the general level of development required to do this job. BSN preferredExperience: Minimum of five years hospital clinical experience and a minimum of two years of vascular access experience preferred
