UPMC Northwest Hospital Seneca, PA Professional Staff Nurse Unit: Emergency Department Status: Casual (PRN) Responsibilities: + Applies the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care model to provide holistic, patient-centered care. Partners with patients and families to establish daily goals and individualized plans of care. + Demonstrates strong critical thinking to address clinical, safety, psychosocial, and spiritual needs throughout the care episode. + Communicates effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members; clearly articulates patient status and advocates for appropriate care plan changes. + Completes accurate, thorough documentation that supports continuity of care and interdisciplinary communication. + Promotes patient safety, quality outcomes, and satisfaction by aligning practice with professional standards, organizational goals, and evidence-based care. + Actively participates in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and identifies opportunities to enhance patient outcomes and service excellence. + Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to inform clinical decisions and influence plans of care. + Builds respectful, collaborative relationships with colleagues and demonstrates accountability, cultural awareness, and professionalism. + Maintains a healthy work-life balance and models safe work practices, effective time management, and attention to workplace safety. + Educates patients and families to support understanding, care transitions, and successful outcomes across the continuum of care. + Supports the development of students, new staff, and peers; may serve as a preceptor and fosters a culture of learning and feedback. + Engages in professional development, shared governance, and change initiatives to continuously improve patient care and the practice environment. + Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence as an active and reliable member of the care team. + Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience required. + Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care based on patient population served, with understanding of growth and development across the lifespan. + Strong clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. + Comfortable working in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment. + Physical ability to meet job demands, including mobility, visual/manual dexterity, and stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients. Licensure, Certifications & Clearances + Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the practicing state or valid multistate license through the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC). + CPR/BLS certification (AHA standards) required within 30 days of hire. + ACLS, PALS, NIH Stroke Scale, and Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) certifications required or obtained per department standards. + UPMC-approved national certification preferred. + Required clearances: Act 33, Act 34, Act 73 FBI Clearance. _Note: Nurses practicing under an out-of-state NLC license who establish residency in the facility's state must apply for in-state licensure within 60 days of residency change._ UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
