Working collaboratively with physicians and healthcare teams, the APP performs assessments, procedures, and treatment planning for a wide range of pediatric conditions-ensuring access to quality care beyond traditional primary care hours.ResponsibilitiesIndependently evaluate and treat pediatric patients presenting with non-emergent illnesses, minor injuries, infections, and other urgent concernsPerform clinical procedures appropriate to training and scope, such as wound care, splinting, abscess drainage, foreign body removal, and rapid testingOrder and interpret diagnostics, including point-of-care labs and radiology, to guide clinical decisionsPrescribe medications, treatments, and referrals per Washington State guidelines for independent APPsEducate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, follow-up care, and warning signsDocument clinical encounters thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)Lead care coordination, including appropriate disposition planning and referrals to primary care or specialistsCollaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, imaging staff, and front-desk personnel to support patient flow and care quality-without requiring supervisory oversightEngage in peer collaboration, clinical meetings, and case discussions that enhance practice quality, safety, and teamwork.Support institutional performance goals, including efforts related to population health, equity, quality measures, and safety protocols.Participate in clinical meetings and improvement initiatives, contributing to efforts that enhance patient outcomes and experience.Maintains license and appropriate continuing education. Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards, and maintains reliable attendanceRequirementsGraduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant programCurrent Washington State licensure as an ARNP (NP) or PA-C with full prescriptive authorityNational certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), or PA-CClinical experience in pediatric urgent care, primary care, or emergency medicine preferredBLS certificationExcellent autonomy, decision-making, and patient-centered communication skillsW
