Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Responsibilities The incumbent serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Primary Care at the patient-focused Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Healthcare System (ATLVAMC) and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). Incumbent may travel between campuses in order to perform duties and supervision, but the actual duty station will be at the CBOC. The incumbent is directly supervised by the Regional Director (RD) of Primary Care. The CMO physician will perform exams according to performance measure guidelines and procedures and dictate/type notes according to policy/procedure. The CMO reports directly to the Regional Director (RD), and Service Line Deputy Chief. Other duties may include screening outpatient, patients to determine need for further care, evaluating unscheduled patients under the physician's care, ordering diagnostic studies, carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities, initiating and expediting requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies. The CMO may be on rotation to do extended hours once per month or less. Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the primary care team, established by the primary care service line manager, Regional Director (RD). Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate service. Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders and encounters for all patients. The incumbent plans and assumes full administrative responsibility for the development and direction of functional primary care programs and physically dispersed staff. This requires the formulation and implementation of general policies, procedures, program standards, goals, and objectives for the primary care department that are consistent with and supportive of the mission of the VISN and VA JMC Atlanta. The CMO physician exercises independent judgment in the practice and provision of primary services (clinical care, consultation, and education). She/he may consult with peers, the Regional Director, the Deputy Chief and Chief of Primary Care, and the Chief of Staff as needed. She/he reports to the Regional Director (RD). The Chief Medical Officer acts as the approving official for the staff physician, to ensure adherence to professional standards of the practice of primary care.
