Summary This Registered Nurse position is to work as the Nurse Manager of Unit 81B, the Spinal Cord Injury unit located at the Brockton campus. This is a full-time day shift position with rotations. Responsibilities The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operations of designated units. Provides coverage for other Nurse Managers. Supervises and directs orientation, training, development of staff and evaluation of individual staff performance. Functions as role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to enhance care outcomes. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, including processes to ensure continued survey readiness. Demonstrates specialized knowledge and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Delivers self-directed, professional nursing practice using the nursing process for complex patients based on conscious and deliberate planning with occasional supervision. Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients. Demonstrates knowledge over a wide range of job responsibilities, effectively communicating with individuals and groups to build a strong sense of teamwork and purpose. Shares knowledge and learning opportunities that enhance current nursing practice and self-evaluation for self and others on the team. Applies evidence-based practice/research, considering patient preferences, to improve quality of care and resource utilization, participating in established improvement activities. Meets the needs of the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran's representative, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff and other customers while supporting VA missions. The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Excepted Service.
