The Sturm College of Law is strongly committed to preparing its students and recent graduates to excel on the bar examination. To this end, the Law School supports a nationally recognized Bar Success Program that trains students in bar-related skills, provides every JD student with complimentary bar preparation materials from a nationally recognized bar preparation provider, and offers graduates a proprietary in-house postgraduate program designed to prepare them to excel on the bar exam.Position SummaryThe Sturm College of Law seeks to hire a full-time visiting faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor of the Practice of Law to serve as Assistant Director of its Bar Success Program, effective August 2025. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Director of the Bar Success Program and the Law School's third-party bar preparation provider to (1) plan, implement, and instruct bootcamps, mini-bar exams, and additional trainings relating to both the bar exam and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE); (2) teach one section of Legal Analysis Strategies (LAS), a course that instructs students in their final semester of law school in foundational skills necessary to achieve success on the bar exam and in the legal profession; (3) co-teach the postgraduate DU Bar Success Program; (4) assist with the collection and analysis of data relating to bar passage and work to refine and enhance the Bar Success Program in light of such data; (5) effectively market the Bar Success Program to current students and recent graduates; (6) collaborate with other faculty members regarding the integration of skills and teaching of subjects tested on the bar, including on the forthcoming NextGen Bar Exam; and (7) furnish bar-takers with individualized advice relating to their professional licensure options.The position is contemplated as a two-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a third year and/or potential conversion to a long-term contract position subject to successful performance and future budgetary conditions.Essential Functions- Plan, implement, and instruct bootcamps, mini-bar exams, and additional trainings relating to both the bar exam and the MPRE;- Teach one section of LAS;- Co-teach the postgraduate DU Bar Success Program;- Assist with the collection and analysis of data relating to bar passage and refine the Bar Success Program in light of such data;- Effectively market the Bar Success Program to current students and recent graduates;- Collaborate with other faculty members regarding the integration of skills and teaching of subjects tested on the bar, including on the forthcoming NextGen Bar Exam; and- Furnish bar-takers with individualized advice relating to their professional licensure options.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Excellent oral and written communication skills- The ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and compelling fashion- The capacity to analyze data- Professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion- The demonstrated ability to work independently and with limited supervision- The ability to function in a high-paced, collaborative work environment- The ability to prioritize workload in an efficient and effective manner- The capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under time constraintsRequired Qualifications- A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school- Membership in the bar of one or more U.S. jurisdictions- An understanding of the current landscape of egal licensure- Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsPreferred Qualifications- Experience teaching law students and/or early-career lawyers- Experience with legal pedagogyWorking Environment- Standard office environment.- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.- Noise level is quiet to moderate.Physical Activities- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.Work ScheduleWhile the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas.
