Yes Employment Category Limited Duration Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Cartographer 1 position for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University ( OSU ). This is a limited duration appointment expected to last approximately 1 year from the appointment begin date. This position will be located in Ashland, WI or remote work. This position will assist with the long-term Landscape Dynamics program in the NPS Great Lakes Network office (Ashland, WI). The role of the successful applicant will be to interpret remotely-sensed imagery to label and validate polygons of disturbance in the landscapes in and around national parks of the Great Lakes region, and to manage the data in a GIS geodatabase context. Key Responsibilities 75%Image interpretation and labeling using a web-based interface, Google Earth Engine, and ArcGIS Pro 15Úta management, screening 10%Communicating findings and progress to supervisor and NPS team, engaging in open and respectful communication with team members. What We Require Two years of drafting experience; OR Two years of training in a college or technical school in drafting, mapping, or closely related field. NOTE : Knowledge of drafting, surveying, plane geometry, algebra, and cartographic principles is required to successfully perform this work. What You Will Need + Attention to detail + Proficiency using web-based tools for data collection + Demonstrated proficiency using ESRI (Environmental Research Systems Institute) desktop software (ArcGIS Pro) for data manipulation and geo-processing + Demonstrated familiarity (through college-equivalent coursework or professional experience) with multi-spectral raster imagery from satellite and airborne acquisitions + Ability to communicate progress, challenges, and findings to supervisor and NPS team through oral and written formats. + Demonstrated ability to work productively and cooperatively in teams and to contribute to an inclusive team culture where all individuals feel valued and respected. + Ability to pass a federal government security background clearance. + If remote work: Employee must have access to high-speed internet for both interpretation and communication with supervisor. What We Would Like You to Have + Direct experience with ESRI Geodatabase design principles + Direct experience with spatial data standards and metadata requirements + Previous experience interpreting multispectral imagery from the Landsat archive and/or from high-resolution imagery + Experience with programming languages (e.g. Python, R, etc.) to improve data screening or summarization + Bacheloru2019s degree in geoscience, atmospheric and oceanic science, forest science, computer science, cartography, biology, ecology or related discipline Working Conditions / Work Schedule Remote work: Position may be arranged for remote work with prior consultation with collaborators in the National Park Service. Work hours: Once trained, work hours can be flexible except when periodic scheduled meetings with National Park Service personnel are needed.
