Job ID#215429 Job Description: The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. This worker reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. This mechanic performs 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves, inspects jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments. Inspects jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks, tests engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration (Jetcal) tester, to locate source of malfunction. Work involves: replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft Position Responsibilities: u2022 Perform close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation to critical support structures and fracture critical areas u2022 Locate blind holes necessary for installation of new structural items to existing structure u2022 Perform efforts associated with sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structure in accordance with standard repair processes u2022 Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specification, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modification/repair u2022 Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot level modification and repair of structural parts u2022 Knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components u2022 Knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems u2022 Knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. u2022 Access aircraft data via computer systems and initiate on-line parts and discrepancy requests u2022 Maintain necessary certifications, licenses and permits as required for assigned work u2022 Ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 35 pounds u2022Ensure working environment is deemed safe for access and job task performance via Hazardous Energy and Lock Out /Tag systems applications u2022 Assist other team members (General Mechanics, Avionics, Electronics) to ensure cost/schedule targets are met u2022 The position requires the ability to pass an assessment at the end of training cycle u2022The position requires compliance to SA Site Tool and FOD procedure Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): u2022 1+ years of experience working with non-porous metals, such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless u2022 1+ years of experience working with schematics, specifications, assembly drawings and standard operating procedures u20221+ years of experience using structures hand tools such as: drills 45 and 90 degrees, pancake adapters, counter sink cages, hole finders, and rivet guns stringers, webs, seat tracks, etc.) to aircraft u2022 Ability to work variable shifts (i.e. scheduled and unscheduled overtime; weekends and holidays) to support mission requirements and workload Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience u2022 Experience in aircraft heavy maintenance (C17 Depot Level) u2022 Experience working with titanium aircraft structures u2022 Ability to operate a forklift, mobile crane, and riding type electric powered elevating equipment Ability to perform the following requirements: u2022 The candidate must be able to ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 35 pounds. u2022 Exposure to noise, working on elevated platforms u2022 Use personal protective gear for face, eyes, ears, hand, and arms as required. u2022 Pass visual acuity and color perception tests u2022 Read, write, and comprehend the English language u2022 Handle, use, and dispose of hazardous material u2022 Obtain & maintain training certifications as required to support assignment responsibilities u2022 Occasional (1 to 3 hrs) finger manipulation u2022 On occasion, a 2-person lift may be necessary for weights greater than 50 lbs u2022 Frequent reaching overhead (3 to 6 hrs) u2022 Frequent walking on flat surfaces u2022 Frequent standing flat or uneven surfaces u2022 Frequent balancing on a ladder, steps, or uneven surfaces u2022 Occasional climbing on 3-12 ft ladders or stands u2022 Rotation of head/neck, sitting, crawling, squatting, bend/stoop, lying down, and operate foot controls for an extended period of time u2022 Occasional contact with metals u2022 Frequent exposure to noise Education / Experience: Applicable and appropriate educational/certification credentials from an accredited institution and/or equivalent experience is required.
