SQL Database Administrator

Job Title: SQL Database Administrator Job Location- Remote, USA We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator to manage and optimize enterprise-scale SQL Server environments across on-premises and cloud platforms. This role requires expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, automation, and high availability strategies to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable data solutions. In this role, you will ; u00b7 Database Administration & Architecture Manage large-scale SQL Server databases across on-prem and cloud environments (Azure, AWS). Design and optimize OLTP and data warehouse architectures for scalability and performance. u00b7 Performance Optimization & High Availability Lead query tuning, indexing strategies, and table partitioning. Configure and maintain SQL Server replication, Always On Availability Groups, and failover clustering to ensure high availability and disaster recovery. u00b7 Maintenance & Automation Perform installations, patching, upgrades, and migrations for SQL Server 2017 and newer versions. Automate DBA tasks and implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Octopus Deploy. u00b7 Monitoring & Security Monitor system health and performance using tools such as SQL Sentry and Idera. Ensure database security, compliance, and sustainability while proactively resolving bottlenecks. u00b7 Collaboration & Mentorship Partner with technology leadership to align database strategy with business goals. Collaborate with developers for query tuning and schema refinement. Mentor junior DBAs and data engineers to promote best practices. u00b7 Additional Expertise Hands-on experience with SSAS, SSRS, SSIS, and emerging platforms like Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Cosmos DB. Microsoft SQL certifications (MCSA, MCSE) are a plus. What youu2019ll need to succeed (required skills) u00b7 8+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration and architecture. u00b7 Strong expertise in SQL Server 2017 and newer versions. u00b7 Proven experience with replication, performance tuning, and index management. u00b7 Solid understanding of OLTP and data warehouse design principles. u00b7 Experience with Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, and AWS RDS. u00b7 Proficiency in database monitoring tools (SQL Sentry, Idera). u00b7 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. u00b7 Microsoft SQL certifications (MCSA, MCSE) preferred. u00b7 Exposure to PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Cosmos DB is an added advantage. Salary and Other Compensation: The annual salary for this position is between $ 79,000 to $92,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizantu2019s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizantu2019s applicable plans.
