Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Comprehensive perioperative care of the surgical patient. Expertise in the following anesthesia core requirements: assessing, consulting and preparing patients for anesthesia; rendering patients insensible to pain during surgical, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures; monitoring and restoring homeostasis in perioperative and critically ill patients; diagnosing and treating painful syndromes; managing cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation. Communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse group of professional staff and management officials. Supervision of CRNA staff, physician residents, mid-level practitioners and medical students in the comprehensive medical management of all patient care. Accurate documentation of care in the medical record. Provide guidance for the APNs on the Perioperative surgical service whose function it is to respond to facility wide Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls. f. Administration of general anesthesia (inhalation and intravenous) including invasive monitoring. Administration of regional anesthesia including: spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks. Placement of venous catheters. Placement of central venous catheters. Placement of chest tubes. Placement of arterial catheters and interpretation of arterial pressures and waveforms. Placement of pulmonary artery catheters and interpretation of pressures/wave forms. Diagnostic Echocardiography, including placement of ECHO probe. Airway management including cricothyroidotomy. Bronchoscopy and other routine ICU procedures. Management of ventilator dependent patients and one lung ventilation. Academic/Teaching/Training Teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and ACNP students as required. Taking part in departmental Journal Club and MM&I activities. Administrative /Program/Evaluation/Outcome Measurement/Research Evaluation and supervision of mid level practitioners. Assisting with creation of policies and standard operating procedures for safe operations of the operating room. Assisting with creation of policies and standard operating procedures for safe operations of the Perioperative Surgical Home. Meet relevant service level and medical center performance measures. Other Significant Responsibilities May serve on Healthcare System, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces specifically relating to assessment, and/or intervention issues associated with the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention; Represents Anesthesiology on decision-making committees within the Healthcare System; Actively participates in leadership roles on local, state and/or national professional organizations specific to Anesthesiology, Pain Management and Critical Care.
