ORDER OF PREFERENCE: The selection for Maintenance and Construction is made on the basis of fitness and ability with preference given to: Maintenance and Construction District, System-Wide (L689), Authority-Wide and external candidates, respectively. Qualifications Minimum Education + A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) + Vocational or technical training in auto/diesel maintenance + The following can be substituted for: + One (1) year full time work experience at ALL levels; + Three (3) years high school mechanical training; Or + Two (2) years tech school mechanical training; Or + Four (4) years college mechanical apprenticeship training Twelve (12) months after an employee achieves a particular grade level (i.e. Grades D, C, B, A and AA), he/she shall advance to the next grade level provided he/she has taken and passed the required written and practical test(s), acquired the applicable certifications and has met the other requirements. Minimum Experience + Two (2) or more years satisfactorily performing the duties of a Garage Fleet Servicer, or related field Minimum Certification/Licensure + Intra State Commercial Driver's License with Passenger, Air Brakes, and Two Truck operations endorsements is accepted with the provisional appointment valid until age 21 residence Medical Group Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. Mission Essential Designation In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events. Job Summary Under general supervision, the Garage Fleet Servicer performs routine to moderately complex technical work that involves troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and overhaul of buses and, heavy and light vehicles. Principal Job Duties + Monitors and bumps tires daily and assists in scheduling replacement and re-grooving of tires as necessary + Performs steam cleaning and pressure washes parts, units, and transit vehicle engines and components. + Performs vehicle lubrication tasks including fluid and filter changes. Starts vehicles and performs service lane functions such as emptying the farebox after revenue service, fueling and cleaning the interior and exterior of buses. + Assists in identification of faulty equipment revealed by abnormal wear patterns. Other Duties + Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.
