Brief Overview The Nurse Practitioner in Perioperative Anesthesia collaborates closely with perioperative and anesthesia teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across the surgical continuum. Key Responsibilities: Collaborating with perioperative and anesthesia teams to provide comprehensive care to patients preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively in the operating rooms at our Boston, Waltham, and Needham sites Conducting patient and family interviews; obtaining and documenting medical history, review of systems, and physical examinations as part of the pre-anesthetic evaluation Educating patients and families regarding the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia, and obtaining anesthesia consent Serving as a consultant and educator to perioperative nursing staff Participating in or leading data collection and quality-improvement initiatives related to anesthesia cancellations, criteria changes, and process improvement Acting as a liaison among the anesthesia attending, primary anesthesia team, nursing staff, and families to optimize patient care and communication Prescribing and administering premedication prior to anesthesia Assisting anesthesia teams in procedural and clinical care areas with vascular access Opportunity exists for future training opportunities to develop competency in PICC line placement This role is fully on site for 10-hour shifts, 3 or 4 days per week 6:30am-5pm. No nights, weekends or major holidays. Minimum Qualifications Education: Master of Science in Nursing Experience: At least 1 year of nursing experience required 5 years of nursing experience in pediatrics (inpatient or outpatient) is preferred Licensure/ Certifications: Current Massachusetts licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (FNP or PNP)
