Principal Design Engineer

JOB REQUIREMENTS: JOB SUMMARY The Principal Design Engineer isresponsible for the design of new products and makes improvements toexisting products. This role will work with various groups directly andindirectly at Prolec-GE Waukesha, Inc. This role will provide electricaldesign, technical analysis and /or resolution of engineering problems.PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Evaluates products, parts, orprocesses for cost efficiency and reliability. Analyze complexengineering problems and offer effective resolutions. Review designs andevaluate for complexity, reliability, ease of manufacture, andprofitability. Participate in product electrical design work Processrequires the correct interpretation and application of customerrequirements, industry standards, design and manufacturing standards toinsure that designs meet our customer requirements at an agreed uponlevel of performance and reliability Review design results and providefeedback where necessary in order to effectively support marketingschedules and insure that designs meet performance and cost objectives.Correctly interpret the product scope to insure proper application ofthe transformer products. Remain current with industry and technicaldevelopments and maintain a high level of expertise in designated areasof specialization. Maintain designated design, manufacturing and processrelated documentation. Consult with marketing and design engineeringstaff to understand solutions to meet customer needs. Consult withmanufacturing process leaders to develop and optimize design solutionsat the optimum total cost. Participate in the development of designsystem improvements. May act as design department liaison with othersupport functions such as IS, operations, etc. Assist in training ofjunior engineers. Product application principles and understanding ofspecific application requirements. Current knowledge of relatedtechnology (e.g. - IS technology, heat transfer, magnetic, dielectrics,and materials). Strong foundation in basic tenants of producttechnology, including mechanical design and product testing Work withoperations team to optimize design for manufacturing from concept stage.Assist operations team when new products go into production. Basictechnical project management with operations, engineering, service,sales/applications and components. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Musthave advanced knowledge of electrical engineering and design and befamiliar with applicable codes, standards and acceptable industrypractices Follows instructions on methods, techniques, or approaches,but may modify approach to...
