We work on some of todays most important insurance problems, including climate resilience and telematics. We consult with insurance carriers, reinsurers, and self-insureds on loss reserving and pricing. We also build predictive models and innovative insurance products for traditional and start-up insurers, as well as the associated state regulatory rate filing support.What You Will DoAs a summer intern, youll work alongside Milliman consultants and project team members, including those in senior management. Over the course of your internship, youll gain exposure to a variety of actuarial functions, such as product development, pricing, and reserving, concluding with the opportunity to present to your Milliman colleagues. Youll also receive on-the-job mentorship from experienced actuaries, and actionable feedback to grow in your career.We believe that the actuarial skillset has important applications across both our traditional actuarial work and our work supporting new and developing markets. As such, we are committed to developing a pipeline of actuarial talent and future leaders of the firm through exam support and interaction with senior colleagues.Typical responsibilities will include:Using Excel for preparation of data analysis, checking data for accuracy and consistency (peer review), drafting reports, and maintaining documentationPredictive modeling using GLMs and non-linear methods using mostly SAS, Python and R, to support rate analysesDraft written reports and exhibits, and prepare other internal/external correspondencePrepare and submit state regulatory filing support documentsUndertake research projects of varying shape and sizeWhat We Are Looking ForProfessional QualificationsAvailable to work 30-40 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks during the summer of 2026Currently pursuing a bachelors degree or higher, including quantitative coursework in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, etc. (resume and current unofficial transcript will be requested)A minimum of one passed actuarial exam by the time of applicationExperience conducting data analysis using MS ExcelExperience using MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TeamsSome exposure to SQL, R, and/or PythonPersonal QualificationsStrong communication skills - both in-person and written - in order to successfully collaborate with colleagues and clientsWorks well independently and within a team, especially when working virtuallyExcellent time management skills including collaboration across time zonesThe ability and willingness to clearly articulate questions and ideasAnalytical thinking skills, considering possible solutions and downstream impactIntellectual curiosity about the topics of risk, Milliman, and the work of our practiceEnthusiasm for producing high-quality, professional work with accuracy and integrityPreferred QualificationsTwo or more passed actuarial exams, and/or one or more VEE completed, at the time of applicationPrior internship(s) or related work experienceExperience using SAS, R, SQL or Python and/or other modeling or coding languagesExperience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI or TableauExpertise with statistical and modeling tools such as @Risk, VBA, STATA, terest or intent to pursue actuarial credentials through the Casualty Actuarial SocietyLocationThis is a remote position, based in the United States. Candidates may be expected to adjust work hours depending upon time zones of team members, project deliverables, etc. No housing or relocation assistance will be provided for this internship.
