Description MAJOR TOOL & MACHINE, INC., JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: MACHINIST Position Summary: Set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, fit and assemble machined parts into complete units applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, maintainability of materials, and layout techniques. Reports To: Manufacturing Team Leader (Machining) or Production Facility Manager Personnel: Not applicable. Accountabilities: Machinist are responsible for producing conforming parts that meet all print dimensions within the said tolerances in the most efficient method. All SOP's and WI's must be followed and a safe, clean organized work area must be maintained. Authorities: Not applicable. Duties: + Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, routing instructions, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements. + Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining as required by router instructions and good shop practice. + Properly select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines. Must be able to improvise setups using common tooling such as risers, angle plates, etc. + Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth or angle of cut or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media. + Must observe machine operation to predict or detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining conditions, and adjust machine controls or control media as required. + Verify that all machined details are produced in a manner that meets print or router specifications, using precision measuring instruments. Request first piece inspection when producing multiple piece runs. + Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings, tooling, or programmed control data. + Review the next project's routers, programs, set-up sheets and tool sheets while the current part is running. + Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools and power tools. + Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks. + Enter correct data into data collection system (IDC) to ensure accurate labor reporting. + Understand and properly operate the
