Primary Purpose of Position The Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a full-time, entry level, live-in professional educator-scholar who fosters transformative residential experiences that accelerate student learning, wellbeing, and success. RHDs oversee the daily operations of a residence hall community, supervise student staff, and cultivate inclusive environments that promote engagement, leadership, and holistic development. This position is considered an essential position and shares in a campus-wide on-call rotation, providing crisis response and support during nights, weekends, and holidays. Essential Personnel in Housing and Residence Life are required to work during peak operational periods, including weekends, holidays, and university breaks, with vacation blackout dates typically aligned with student move-in/move-out, major campus events, and emergency response needs. These team members play a critical role in maintaining safety, service continuity, and operational readiness during times of high demand. RHDs are expected to actively engage and build relationships with students in their assigned communities, conduct student behavior meetings and hearings, and uphold university policies through educational approaches that align with , Student Affairs Mission, and . Primary Function of Organizational Unit The primary purpose of the Housing and Residence Life department is to provide housing accommodation and a certain quality of life for over 6000 students. To provide living accommodations which are clean, safe, healthy, and comfortable while enhancing a certain quality of life, which supports the academic mission of North Carolina A&T State University. The Residence Life program is designed to provide an environment which supports students in their academic pursuits, encourages interpersonal development, and offers opportunities for individual growth and challenge. To provide a quality of life for on campus students through a clean, safe, educational environment. Responsible for the overall leadership and management of all residence halls, the assignments of rooms, occupancy status of halls, housekeeping needs, maintenance concerns, and budgets, including operating and programming Minimum Requirements Education and Experience Requirements:Bachelor’s degree is required.Qualified applicants will have strong written and oral communication skills. Qualified applicants will display the ability to foster diverse and inclusive relationships as well as a high degree of cultural sensitivity.The ability to manage a variety of projects and responsibilities.Experience in diverse populations.Excellent organizational and time management skills.The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is a must. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Master’s Degree. Preference will go to candidates with professional or paraprofessional experience in residence life or commensurate experience in student affairs.Provide leadership, oversight, and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the institution’s goals and core values.
