Initial salary placement is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code u00a787815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Applicants can review Miramar Collegeu2019s full strategic plan on Miramar Collegeu2019s: Major Responsibilities Under the direction of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Mental Health Counselor provides professional mental health services to support the psychological well-being, academic success, and personal development of students. This position delivers individual counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and wellness programming. The counselor maintains an active caseload, conducts assessments, offers short-term interventions, provides follow-up care, and connects students to appropriate on- and off-campus resources. The incumbent in the position must maintain professional licenses and complete required continuing education units (CEUs) per State regulations required for on-going employment and must work collaboratively with the team of clinical staff in Student Health Services as well as members of the Dean of Student Affairs Office and Student Services Division. Major Responsibilities: + Provide individual short-term counseling, crisis assessment, and intervention for students from a wide range of cultural, socioeconomic, and personal backgrounds. + Advocate for disproportionately impacted students by addressing barriers to success, assisting with navigation of resources, and providing culturally responsive care. + Coordinate responses and interventions for students experiencing mental health concerns and/or challenges. + Serve as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team ( BIT ), contributing to the development of intervention strategies and providing direct support to students in crisis. + Develop and maintain partnerships with campus and community agencies to ensure continuity of care and expanded access to services. + Design and facilitate psychosocial workshops, classroom presentations, and in-service trainings for students, faculty, and staff. + Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA , FERPA , and professional ethical standards. + Engage in ongoing professional development, maintaining active licensure and fulfilling all continuing education requirements as outlined by state regulations. + Adherence to the legal and ethical requirements related to record maintenance and documentation ( HIPAA and FERPA ). Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS + Masteru2019s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, + OR the equivalent + ( NOTE : A bacheloru2019s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.) Desired Qualifications + Masteru2019s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or a related field that meets California Board licensure requirements ( LPCC , LMFT , LCSW , or equivalent). + Licensed in the State of California. + Two yearsu2019 experience providing therapy and crisis counseling to individuals with various diagnosis and experiencing a variety of challenges. + Evidence of knowledge, experience, sensitivity and understanding of the unique challenges of disproportionally impacted students + Evidence of knowledge, skills and ability to handle crisis intervention, conflict resolution and management of disruptive behavior in an educational or community-based setting in conjunction with administration/supervisor. + Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student records ( FERPA , HIPAA , Cleary Act, and other legislation regarding students; the American Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.) + Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills. + Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
