Employment Type: Full time Shift: Description: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: u00b7 Applies professional nursing skills in the provision of the treatment of ill and injured patients utilizing the four aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. u00b7 Demonstrates ability to recognize and assess emergency needs of patients and initiate therapeutic procedures as needed within their scope of practice. u00b7 Acts to facilitate interdisciplinary communication. Utilizes other members of the health care team in assessing the patient and analyzes patient data. Assesses learning needs of the patient and significant others. Gives accurate and complete information to patient and family. u00b7 Coordination of care may include but not limited to: u00b7 Dieticians u00b7 Endosocpy u00b7 Dental offices for dental extractions prior to therapy u00b7 Home Care u00b7 Hospice u00b7 Palliative Care u00b7 Pain Center u00b7 Oncology Nurse Navigators u00b7 VA and other health care centers u00b7 American Cancer Society: travel services, accommodations, financial support, assist devices, etc. u00b7 Medical/Surgical Oncology physicians u00b7 Inpatient nursing units u00b7 Counseling services u2013 inpatient and outpatient u00b7 Evaluates patient and family understanding of treatment plan and/or instructions u00b7 Radiation treatment planning, delivery, follow up care u00b7 Tube feeding placement and ongoing education, support for home management of parenteral nutrition and site care. u00b7 Medication management as prescribed u00b7 Assists with a variety of procedures and exams. u00b7 Endoscopic nasopharyngeal exams u00b7 High dose radiation therapy GYN procedures u00b7 Low dose radiation therapy GYN procedures u00b7 High does radiation therapy breast Mammosite/SAVI treatments u00b7 IV power port blood draws u00b7 Peripheral blood draws u00b7 Foley catheter placement u00b7 Tracheostomy management u00b7 IV pump management u00b7 Provides patient/family or caregiver education and counseling in recognition and solution of physical, emotional, and environmental health problems. Including but not limited to side effects of radiation therapy: u00b7 Hypovolemia u00b7 Skin care- radiation dermatitis u00b7 Lymphoedema u00b7 Mucositis u00b7 Pain management u2013 mild to severe- u00b7 GI/GU system side effects u00b7 Medication management /patient education u00b7 Emotional support u00b7 Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications administered. u00b7 Dressing changes u00b7 Power Port and peripheral blood draws u00b7 Wound drainage devices u00b7 Assists patient with ambulation, elimination needs (toilet, urinal, bed pan) and undressing/ dressing protecting patients from injury/falls. u00b7 Responsible for following instrument and equipment maintenance protocols. u00b7 Reprocessing of HDR and LDR instrumentation u00b7 Reprocessing of instrumentation u00b7 Utilizes hospital information system to process data and retrieve patient information. u00b7 Proficient in accessing and utilization of hospital patient information databases: u00b7 ACIS u00b7 Carestream/ PACS u00b7 IDX reports u00b7 Works independently with limited direct supervision using Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, and professional judgment. u00b7 Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices). u00b7 Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient/personnel information. u00b7 Must be a self-starter and able to work independently and make appropriate decisions within clinic guidelines. u00b7 Accurately documents assessment and results in patient record. u00b7 Proficient and accurate documentation in MOSAIQ u00b7 Management and documentation of patient and or family written records upon request: u00b7 FMLA forms u00b7 Disability forms u00b7 Reports test results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members. Includes but not limited to: u00b7 Physicians- on an ongoing basis throughout the day u00b7 Radiation therapists u00b7 Nursing team u00b7 Utilizes professional and tactful communications at all times with all team members u00b7 Maintains inventory and stocking of supplies. u00b7 Participates in staff development activities and orientation as requested. u00b7 Promotes a teamwork atmosphere. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: u00b7 Possession of a current license as a RN issued by the State of Iowa. u00b7 Minimum of three years acute care experience. u00b7 Demonstrated ability to perform basic nursing skills in an outpatient setting. u00b7 Knowledge of principles of anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes. u00b7 Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. u00b7 Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
