Explore opportunities with us and help improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.Group: Utility Infrastructure Position: Project Engineer Location: Cleveland, OH or Akron, OHThe Project Engineer position includes design, analysis, and construction document preparation for a variety of water, wastewater and stormwater projects including, but not limited to: water distribution, pumping stations, finished water storage, wastewater collection, lift stations, water and wastewater treatment, stormwater management, green infrastructure, and utility relocation projects. Tasks include master planning, preparation of design drawings, specifications, calculations, permitting, construction administration and technical writing. Other responsibilities may include presentations and client communication. Project Engineers work under the direction and mentoring of Project Managers and Technical Directors.TechnicalPerform all aspects of utility infrastructure design tasksAssist Project Manager with other technical tasks as may be assignedCorrectly interpret regulatory requirements and related technical materialsIndependently perform design calculationsIndependently perform product research and evaluationIdentify project design issues and obtain assistance in resolving them Possess ability to think ‘outside the box’ with innovative ideas to provide solutions to clientsPossess a thorough understanding of Utility Infrastructure Group StandardsPrepare construction documents in accordance with Utility Infrastructure Group drafting standardsDevelop exhibits and design drawingsDevelop job-specific details for unique conditionsDevelop technical specificationsConstruction AdministrationAssist in resolution of construction-related problems as quickly as possibleRespond to RFIs from contractors and subcontractors during constructionPerform field observation site visits (accompanied by Project Managers as appropriate), and write field reportsReview construction submittals for conformance to the project design documents and organize and maintain logs and files thereofQuality AssuranceMaintain design book, correspondence documentation and electronic files for each projectReview the final design drawings and computations prepared by Staff Engineers and Technicians for completeness and accuracy prior to every submittalReview work that is performed by other departments and/or subconsultants for compatibility with utility design elementsPrepare markups and guiding CAD technicians for the purpose of generating construction documents in accordance with drafting standardsReport quality assurance deficiencies to the Project ManagerAssist in preparation of standard specifications, design details and calculationsCommunication/Management:Be responsive to all Project Manager and Client requestsEstablish a detailed project design task list for each project submittal stageKeep Project Managers informed on status of workAttend project meetings to coordinate design requirements with clients and other disciplines (independently as appropriate)Coordinate design requirements with other project disciplines (Survey, Geotechnical, Architecture, Civil, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing, Manufacturers, etc.)Practice upward and downward delegationManage Tasks (under the supervision of Project Managers as appropriate)Break down complex design and analysis tasks into “first principals” of engineeringTrain, mentor, and provide direct hands-on assistance to teach new design elements, procedures, calculations, documentation, and plan preparation techniques to Staff Engineers and TechniciansServe as technical representative of firm at all required project meetings, presentations, and public hearingsInterface with clients through project work and professional organizations and community serviceEducation:Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or related fieldCertification: Ohio Professional Engineering license, or ability to obtain within six months after employmentExperience:Registered engineer with 4+ years diversified Utility Infrastructure experience (up to 1 year of graduate school can be considered as part of the years of relevant experience)Project experience with water, wastewater, storm water, green infrastructure, local municipal and public utilities Involvement in professional organizations such as WEF, AWWA, ASCE, etc.Travel:Occasional day trips to project sites and client meetingsField Work:Occasional site assessment, field measurements, construction observationPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
