Working closely with project teams, Safety Managers develop and implement protocols, conduct training programs, and monitor compliance with regulations and company policies. This role will be based on a construction project and will be involved in both safety management and field oversight to ensure safety for staff and craft employees, subcontractors, and consultants supporting the project. District Overview Kiewitu2019s Southern California District operates with heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Although most of our work is scattered across Southern California, we also pursue various projects across the west coast and Hawaii. Location This position will support projects in Southern California, New Mexico, and Texas. Relocation and travel will be required, and relocation assistance can be provided to the right candidate. Responsibilities u2022 Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to heavy civil, transportation, and water resource projects. u2022 Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards. u2022 Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks. Training and Education: u2022 Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors. Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles. u2022 Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization. Incident Management and Investigation: u2022 Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents. u2022 Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Regulatory Compliance: u2022 Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to heavy civil, transportation, and water resource construction. u2022 Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies. Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits. Safety Performance Monitoring: u2022 Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects. u2022 Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement. u2022 Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership. Qualifications u2022 Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu. u2022 Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on heavy civil, transportation and/or water resource projects. u2022 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years u2022 Professional certification in safety management, specifically CHST, Required. CSP, EM385,CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred. u2022 An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years with training for competent person status in at least Four (4) of the following competencies: Excavation; Scaffolding; Fall protection; Hazardous energy; Confined space; Health hazard recognition, evaluation and control of chemical, physical and biological agents; Personal protective equipment and clothing to include selection, use and maintenance. u2022 In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. u2022 Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity. u2022 Strong written and verbal communication skills u2022 Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies. u2022 Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done. u2022 Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed. #LI-JT1 Other Requirements: u2022 Regular, reliable attendance u2022 Work productively and meet deadlines timely u2022 Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment u2022 Perform work safely and effectively.
