Responsibilities The incumbent serves as the supervisor of the legal support staff and provides advice, guidance, and, assistance of legal support functions. One position will be filled in the Criminal Division and one in the Civil Division. Typical duties, will vary depending on the Division, and include: Oversees, monitors, and reviews the legal support work and serves as a technical expert. Performs Legal Administrative Specialist duties for assigned AUSAs. Sets priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work; assigns work and evaluates the performance of employees; makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinates; interviews candidates for legal support positions; conducts on-the-job training; approving leave, coordinating vacation schedules to ensure office coverage. Provides technical assistance to AUSAs to facilitate the management of incoming and outgoing document discovery in accordance with eDiscovery and other procedural requirements. Legal research and other case support activities. Prepares exhibits for legal proceedings, which may involve a wide range of visual materials including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models. Prepares trial exhibits or facilitates preparation by other appropriate staff or vendors to ensure timely production prior to the date of the proceeding. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level; or education or a combination of both specialized experience and education as explained below. Specialized experience is defined as coordinating legal office administrative functions, mentoring and providing training for legal support staff; assisting attorneys and legal support staff in organizing and analyzing voluminous case information; providing administrative and technical legal expertise to support staff; and working closely with attorneys responsible for investigating and litigating cases. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) - The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
