Now Hiring: Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) TechnicianLocation: Detroit, MISalary Range: $55,000.00-$62,000.00What You’ll DoMilton Manufacturing is seeking a highly skilled CMM Technician with strong experience operating portable articulated scanning arms such as the FARO Arm, Hexagon Absolute Arm, or similar. In this role, you’ll perform advanced dimensional inspections, create measurement programs in PolyWorks, and generate high-quality scan data and reports to support the Quality Department.You’ll work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve dimensional challenges, support PPAP/APQP activities, and ensure precision across complex manufactured components in a fast-paced environment.If you’re passionate about metrology, GD&T, and high‑accuracy measurement systems—and enjoy hands-on work with cutting-edge scanning technology—this role puts you at the center of quality excellence.What You’ll Be Responsible ForOperate portable articulated scanning arms (FARO, Hexagon, or equivalent) to perform first article, in‑process, and final inspectionsDevelop, write, and optimize PolyWorks Inspector programs for repeatable scanning and probing routinesGenerate high-quality mesh images, perform mesh‑to‑CAD comparisons, and create detailed color deviation mapsProduce accurate measurement reports including balloon drawings, dimensional results, and GD&T verificationInterpret complex customer engineering drawings and GD&T callouts per ASME Y14.5 standardsCollaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve dimensional nonconformancesMaintain calibration records and ensure scanning systems remain in proper working conditionSupport PPAP, APQP, and ISIR documentation with required dimensional data packagesAssist in developing inspection plans, control plans, and standard work instructionsPerform fixture and part alignment using best‑fit, RPS, and datum-based alignment methodsContinuously improve scanning efficiency, measurement processes, and reporting quality in alignment with lean manufacturing goalsWhat You BringProficiency in PolyWorks Inspector, including program creation, macros, mesh processing, and reportingStrong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009 or 2018)Understanding of measurement uncertainty, calibration principles, and gage R&RExceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracyStrong analytical and problem‑solving abilities for root cause identificationClear written and verbal communication skills for reporting and cross‑functional workAbility to manage multiple inspection priorities with minimal supervisionProficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)Team-oriented mindset with continuous improvement focusEducation & ExperienceMinimum 3 years operating portable articulated scanning arms (FARO, Hexagon, or similar)Experience generating mesh-based inspection data and performing CAD-to-part comparisonsAbility to read and interpret complex drawings and specificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in metrology, quality, or related field preferredExperience with PolyWorks Modeler and advanced mesh workflowsFamiliarity with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 quality systemsPrior PPAP, APQP, and FAIR/ISIR documentation experience in automotive or defense industriesASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or similar credential preferredExperience with additional metrology software (PC-DMIS, Geomagic, Verisurf) a plusBasic CAD literacy (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) for working with 3D modelsPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, and work on the shop floor for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs as neededComfortable working in a manufacturing environment with machinery, noise, and varying temperaturesWhy Join UsAt Milton Manufacturing, precision and performance drive everything we do.
