Learn more about our Charlotte team as well as our Land Development Practice.Why This Role is ExcitingYou’ll get exposure to a wide variety of projects, including:Higher education campusesHealthcare facilitiesMixed-use and multifamily developmentsNational homebuilder communitiesRetail and commercial developmentsIndustrial and logistics facilitiesMunicipal and local government projectsHow You’ll Make an ImpactWork within a collaborative team to developsite civil engineering plans and specificationsfor a wide range of land development projects.Preparesite layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and related design elements usingAutoCAD Civil 3D and other tools.Contribute toconstruction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports, with a focus on accuracy and high-quality work.Supportstormwater management, utility design, and sustainable site design solutions that improve community resilience.Collaborate closely with colleagues in other VHB offices and disciplines—including transportation, environmental, and planning—on integrated project teams.As you gain experience, help train and mentor junior staff on technical standards, tools, and best practices.Participate in professional organizations and business development activities as your interests and experience grow.What You BringInterest in innovative, practical design solutions for complex, real-world projects.Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills—you’re comfortable asking questions and collaborating.A learning mindset and willingness to work on integrated projects with multidisciplinary teams.Commitment to high-quality work, sustainability, and resilience in the built environment.Familiarity with land development processes; knowledge of Charlotte-area codes, ordinances, and development regulations is a plus.QualificationsBS in Civil Engineeringor a related degree.1-3+ years of civil engineering experience (internship, co-op, or full-time) in land development, site design, or related areas.EIT licensure or FE Exam passed preferred (or in progress).Proficiency inAutoCAD Civil 3D andMS Office(Excel, Word, PowerPoint).Experience with any of the following is a plus:HydroCAD, WaterCAD, WaterGEMSMicrosoft ProjectBIM 360 or similar cloud collaboration platformsExperience in developingsite plans, construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports is highly valued.Our Commitment to Your GrowthWe know early-career years are critical.
