POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic HR leader supporting a corporate function with a strong focus on organizational effectiveness, team design, and talent processes across the full associate lifecycle. This role partners closely with senior leaders to build high-performing teams, enhance productivity, and improve associate engagement and retention. The Director ensures consistent execution of HR standards, policies, and strategies while maintaining compliance with employment laws and organizational governance requirements. In addition to strategic leadership, the role leads a small HR team and provides hands-on HR support across associate relations, talent development, and enterprise HR programs. This associate reports to the Senior Director of Corporate Human Resources and has regular interaction with Executive and Officer levels throughout the organization. Qualified candidates for this role will have at least 10 years of progressive HR experience including strong examples of influence and change through collaboration. This role is based at Penskeu2019s corporate office in Reading, PA, in office at least 4 days a week. The position is eligible for relocation assistance. Key Responsibilities Strategic HR, Organizational Effectiveness & Execution u2022 Partner with functional leaders to design and evolve team structures that enable clarity, scalability, and high performance u2022 Translate enterprise HR strategies into practical, well-executed solutions that meet the needs of the supported corporate function u2022 Lead workforce planning, role design, and capability assessments aligned with business strategy u2022 Use data and insights to identify opportunities and drive improvements in productivity, engagement, and retention u2022 Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders on change management, team effectiveness, and leadership impact Talent Lifecycle & Team Performance u2022 Oversee and continuously improve talent processes across the associate lifecycle, including workforce planning, onboarding, performance management, development, and career progression u2022 Ensure consistent application of talent processes, tools, and standards across teams u2022 Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to align hiring strategies u2022 Strengthen performance management practices, feedback culture, and accountability through leader coaching and process rigor u2022 Support succession planning and internal mobility to build sustainable talent pipelines Associate Relations, Compliance & Risk Management u2022 Provide expert guidance on associate relations matters, ensuring fair, consistent, and legally compliant practices u2022 Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and internal policies u2022 Coach leaders on associate relations, investigations, corrective actions, and performance issues u2022 Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Labor Relations teams to manage risk, address complex cases, and ensure appropriate documentation and resolution u2022 Proactively identify associate relations trends and risks and recommend preventative actions HR Standards, Policies & Governance u2022 Ensure effective execution of HR standards, policies, and procedures across the supported function u2022 Drive understanding and adoption of HR programs, policies, and expectations among leaders and associates u2022 Monitor adherence to HR governance, controls, and compliance requirements u2022 Participate in audits, reviews, and continuous improvement of HR policies and practices HR Team Leadership & Capability Development u2022 Lead, coach, and develop a small HR team to deliver high-quality, responsive support to internal customers u2022 Build HR acumen across the team, ensuring strong knowledge of employment practices, compliance, talent processes, and organizational effectiveness u2022 Set clear expectations and priorities to ensure timely, consistent, and business-aligned HR support u2022 Foster a customer-focused mindset, ensuring the HR team understands business needs and delivers practical, value-added solutions u2022 Provide ongoing feedback, performance management, and development planning for HR team members Talent Development & Engagement u2022 Support the design and execution of leadership and professional development initiatives aligned with organizational needs u2022 Partner with Learning & Development to identify skill gaps and development priorities u2022 Drive engagement strategies that enhance the associate experience and support retention u2022 Use engagement data and feedback to inform action plans and leader accountability HR Programs & Enterprise Initiatives u2022 Lead and support implementation of core HR programs, systems, and processes u2022 Ensure HR programs are scalable, compliant, and consistently applied u2022 Contribute to enterprise-wide HR initiatives, change efforts, and cross-functional projects u2022 Act as a change leader, ensuring smooth adoption of new HR strategies, programs, and tools Qualifications: u2022 10+ years HR Generalist experience required u2022 At least 3 years leadership experience required u2022 Bachelor's Degree in HR, or related field required, Master's Degree in HR or related field preferred u2022 PHR / SPHR or other HR Certification is preferred u2022 Experience leading projects and initiatives with a cross-functional team u2022 Excellent written and verbal communication skills u2022 Highly collaborative u2022 Ability to influence leaders, peers, and direct reports u2022 Strong ability to build relationships at all levels within an organization u2022 Ability to prioritize multiple projects u2022 Ability to build a strong professional HR team u2022 Demonstrate strategic thinking u2022 Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job. u2022 Successful candidate must complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and complete a drug screening.
