Bioinformatician (JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular) Fully Remoteu2022United States Job Type Full-time Description Overview Tanaq Management Services (TMS) delivers professional, scientific, and technical services and information technology (IT) solutions to federal agencies in the health, agriculture, technology, and other government services. About the Role We are seeking a Bioinformatician to provide support to our federal government customer. The Bioinformatician will work with a Web Software Developer who is providing development, deployment, and maintenance for MicrobeTrace, a bioinformatics tool developed to support cluster detection and characterization methods. This is a fully remote position. Candidates must be located in the United States. Occasional on-site work may be required at the clientu2019s location in Atlanta, GA, based on client's needs. Responsibilities + Develop and evaluate synthetic epidemiologic and molecular sequence datasets that will mimic real world data, which will be very valuable in validation of various analytical tools, pipelines, and data systems. + Contribute to software development efforts using JavaScript, Typescript, and Angular. + Maintain regular communication with the customer, provide weekly updates on tasks and provide demonstrations at team meetings, individual meetings, ZenHub, emails, and reports. + Present findings and/or provide MicrobeTrace demonstrations at conferences, workshops, meetings, and in publications. + Train coworkers, collaborators, and state and federal partners to use these new tools/platforms. + Provide support to the Web Software Developer to integrate with new and available bioinformatics tools and platforms; optimize existing visualizations; add new functionalities in MicrobeTrace for network and phylogenetic analyses; develop and deploy web-based version of MicrobeTrace for increased cluster detection efficiency; support methods to automate testing of MicrobeTrace using available open-source tools; manage development progress using project management tools; and enhance real-time response capabilities and prevention by integrating and visualizing data with increased efficiency and improved user access. + Other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Skills and Experience + Minimum 2-3 years of experience in bioinformatics. + Experience in software development using JavaScript, TypeScript and Angular highly desired. + Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and platforms. + Experience developing and evaluating synthetic epidemiologic and molecular sequence datasets that mimic real world data to validate various analytical tools, pipelines, and data systems. + Experience presenting findings and/or technical demonstrations at conferences, workshops, meetings, and in publications. + Experience integrating and visualizing data highly desired. + Demonstrated proactive approaches to troubleshooting issues and problem solving with strong analytical decision-making capabilities. + Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. + Attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment. + Prior experience supporting CDC or similar US government client preferred. + Ability to pass required Federal background screening, obtain and maintain government clearance. + Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Education and Training + Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Microbiology, Biology, or closely related field required. Physical Requirements + Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
