Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours. This position is not covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins). CDOT offers $19.29 /hour for the Temporary General Labor I. The majority of CDOTu2019s temporary positions work 40 hours per week with the opportunity for overtime. For more information, go to Description of Job About the Position The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a candidate to work at our Aurora facilities. This position will perform a variety of general maintenance activities and cleaning to maintain the facilities. Major duties and responsibilities: + Maintain current knowledge of and abide by all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment. + Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment such as shields, helmets, gloves, earplugs, masks, eye protection, leathers, etc. + Keep work area clean and all equipment and materials safely organized. + Attend safety meetings, hazardous materials meetings and other job required training. + Learn and develop job knowledge and skills through on-the-job training and training courses. + Keep up with changes in job-related equipment, tools, materials, processes, procedures, and technology and maintain effective level of technical knowledge. + Maintain knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, standards, statutes, regulations, and other reference materials such as the Safety Manual and CDOTu2019s Standard Operating Guidelines. + Other job duties as assigned. Work Environment: + Your Winter schedule will primarily be 6:00 am u2013 2:30 pm work hours, Monday-Friday + Your Summer Schedule will primarily be 6:00 am - 4:30 pm work hours, Monday - Thursday + Travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range + Required to operate CDOT vehicles + Exposure to loud noise + Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc., that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin + Required to operate CDOT vehicles + Required to lift up to 50 lbs + Occasionally exert up to 100 lbs of force to move objects + Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment, which CDOT provides + Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals: propane, cleaning solvents, join filler materials, paint, cement, solvents, graffiti remover, slurry aggregate asphalt, oil, diesel fuel, anti-freeze, window cleaners, batteries, cleaning agents, waxes, gasoline, etc. + Required to use ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10 - 20' to clean light panels inside and outside windows. + Required to use small power and hand tools + Pavements + Stripping + Sign Installation + Minor equipment repairs + Required to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and variable weather conditions Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Minimum Qualifications + No previous education or experience is required. + Previous custodial, grounds keeping, and customer service experience, as well as mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn is highly desirable.
