Summary The Syracuse VA Medical Center is seeking a qualified Physician Assistant to work in the Gastroenterology Department. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. The Physician Assistant will cover the Gastroenterology (GI) section as part of the Specialty Care ICC at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. The GI Endoscopy PA is responsible for the program resources (financial, human capital, materials, or informational) in order to provide safe, effective, and efficient care. Duties include, but are not limited to: Coordinate and facilitate GI endoscopic care working side-by-side with the Gastroenterologists in the endoscopy suite performing a variety of endoscopic procedures including, but not limited to: colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, ERCP, EUS, flexible sigmoidoscopy, PEG tube placement and manometry. Function as an active member of the Gastroenterology section within the Department of Medicine at the Syracuse, VA. Provide general GI services in keeping with good clinical practice and standards of the Gastroenterology section of the Medicine service at the Syracuse Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and SUNY Upstate Medical University. Maintain PA licensing and credentialing in good standing, You will be expected to be in compliance with the Medical Staff bylaws and will complete all assigned notes, encounters and chart reviews timely. Act as a liaison between appropriate subspecialty providers, case managers and primary care for patients in need of endoscopic procedures. Coordinate post-procedure care by acting as a liaison between the appropriate sub- specialty and primary care providers. Manage and coordinate tests, labs, imaging, procedure, consultations, and travel documents as needed for the pre and post procedure care of patients. Facilitate Direct Access Colonoscopy procedures and completing consents for procedures you are involved with while working with the MDs. Prepare patient for their endoscopic procedures. Perform histories and physicals on patients as needed and appropriately document all findings in the electronic medical records. Arrange paracentesis for patients with liver disease that need it on a regular basis. Arrange phlebotomy for patients that need it on a regular basis in liaison wit providers. Facilitate Acute hospital transfer of patients from the ED and inpatient care for urgent endoscopic procedures. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm (or depending on the needs of the service) Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
