Summary We invite you to come join the Salem VA Medical center We are looking for a Hospitalist to provide patient care to Veterans in the areas of Internal Medicine and Acute Care Service Line in the form of primary and/or consultative care. The Hospitalist is responsible for the provision of medical diagnostic evaluation and initial assessment of patients to include a minimum of focused history, physical examinations, and pertinent laboratory investigations. Responsibilities The hospitalist is responsible for the evaluation of all new admissions with completion of an admission History and Physical, or completion of the short-form admission note as appropriate (per Salem VAMC Medical Center By-Laws and applicable Medical Center Memorandums, or MCM). When supervising an academic team, the hospitalist is responsible for the resident/intern/ students' patient care, documentation and inter disciplinary communication. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM Academic Hospitalists share weekend on-site patient care Call coverage of academic teams may require on-site after hour (evening and night) patient care The duties and responsibilities of the Physician - Academic Hospitalist include, but are not limited to the following: Expected to promote and facilitate research amongst both House staff and Faculty. Participate in national VHA conference calls and audio conferences on issues related to both the Hospitalist Section, Facility, and any new programs or initiatives affecting the two entities. Participation will be assigned by the Chief, Hospitalist Section; Chief, Medical Service; Chief of Staff; or Director, Salem VAMC. Represent the Section or the Service by serving on committees or task forces, as well as through service to local, state, or national professional service organizations, both inside and outside of the VA (as applicable and assigned). Expected to perform, at a minimum, basic procedures expected of any board eligible Internist. This includes lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, and paracentesis. Obliged to request consults as deemed appropriate. Telephonic contact is required in urgent/emergent situations. When the required service or level of care is not available at our facility, the Hospitalist will be asked to make arrangements for transfer to a higher level of care. This will require contact with colleagues at VA or Non-VA facilities.. Engage in furthering the education of medical residents, students, and fellows by provision of Grand Rounds presentations, noon lecture series presentation, etc., with an emphasis on development of the skills required to selectively apply medical knowledge, based on individual cases and circumstances. Participation in back-up attending call roster is required Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
