Banner University Medicine Tucson (B-UMCT) seeks a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for our Surgical Oncology Division. Specifically, this PA/NP will collaborate with a team of 5 surgical oncologists and 1 APP who focus on complex procedures involving the liver, pancreas, biliary system, and gastrointestinal tract to treat both benign and malignant conditions including cancers, cysts, and inflammatory disorders. The PA/NP will support these complex oncology patients throughout their inpatient surgical journey, working with a team of surgical residents, consultants, case managers, physical therapists, and dieticians to ensure the best outcomes. There is an emphasis on ensuring readiness for discharge and appropriate oncologic follow-up as patients are discharged from the hospital and embark on the next phase of their care. Key Responsibilities: + Round on the inpatient service daily + Patient Evaluation: Comprehensive assessment of postoperative patients and new surgical oncology consults + Clinical Management: Ordering tests, consulting specialists, and arranging admissions + Procedural Skills: Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures such as drain removal, opening of wounds, basic wound care + Continuity of Care: Serving as a consistent presence on the team + Team Communication: Coordinating care through various channels + Documentation: Maintaining thorough patient records + Discharge Planning: Working with case managers for smooth transitions of care with a goal of facilitating smooth transitions between hospital and outpatient settings + First Assist: Surgical assistance when needed + Interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications + Collaborate with surgeons, residents, nurses, and other team members + Participate in patient education, consultation, and research Ideal Candidate: Comfortable with clinical management in the inpatient setting and works well in a collaborative multidisciplinary team. Motivated and willing to learn.
