JOB REQUIREMENTS: Police Officer Posting Number: NA01490 EmploymentStatus: Full Time Job Family: Community Safety and Law EnforcementPosition Overview The Police Officer's primary role is to prevent crimeand the breach of public order. Primary responsibilities includeprotecting students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, property, andfacilities from accidents, bodily harm, fire, theft, vandalism, andillegal entry; enforcing laws and traffic and parking regulations;apprehending violators; providing general information and assistance tothe public; conducting criminal investigations; and participating incommunity oriented policing efforts. Duties and Responsibilities vestigate complaints or crimes 2. Enforce traffic and safetyregulations in accordance with all municipal ordinances & state laws 3.Detection and prevention of crime 4. Apprehension and arrest ofviolators of both municipal ordinances & state laws 5. Participate inthe investigation and follow-up of criminal cases as required 6. Respondto calls for service both on and off campus and submit required reports7. Participate in all training provided and required by the department8. Offer unique individual talents and ideas to advance the developmentof the officer and the department 9. Actively cultivate the highestprofessional relationships with other departments, outside agencies, andcommunity groups 10. Maintain positive image with the public throughactions that are both professional and impartial 11. Special assignmentsincluding university sporting events & concerts 12. Possibleresponsibilities may include: Performance as a bike officer IntoxilizerOperator Crime Scene Tech Critical Incident Team Homeless Outreach TeamInstructor of DAAT , Firearms, Emergency Vehicle Operation, VehicleContacts, Active Shooter and/or First Aid/Combat Casualty Care DrugRecognition Expert Traffic Investigator Tavern Car/Alcohol EnforcementField Training Officer Police Officer Support Team (Peer Support) RifleOperator Glock Armorer 13. May perform duties that include Star Chase,ALPR Car, Booking Officer duties and/or MIRT 14. Perform other relatedduties as required, assigned or requested. Required Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities Must be at least 21 years of age. Possess High SchoolDiploma or Equivalent. Must have 60 college credits upon graduating thePolice Academy. Graduation from certified academy with a Basic CourseCertificate within the past three years, or employment as a policeofficer with a Wisconsin Certified Law Enforcement Agency within thepast three years. (Applicant: Must submit a copy of Basic AcademyCertificate with the application. If currently in an academy, include aletter from the academy stating projected graduation date. The basicacademy certificate must be provided by time of appointment. Mustpossess a valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Driver's License with favorabledriving record at time of appointment. Be a citizen of the U.S. or be apermanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied forcitizenship (Government Code Section 1031(a)). Be free of any felonyconviction and certain misdemeanor convictions including domesticviolence offenses. Must demonstrate excellent oral and writtencommunication skills. Effective interpersonal skills to resolve a widevariety of sensitive situations. Ability to maintain strictconfidentiality; ability to exercise sound judgment and workindependently. A strong commitment to providing top-quality customerservice. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with diversepublics is required. Demonstrated ability to think and act effectivelyin emergency and sensitive situations. Clear evidence of sensitivity toand understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, a drug screen andpsychologi al testing. The PoliceOfficer must also be able to perform all duties and physical demands asrequired. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledgeof current law enforcement methods and procedures. Thorough knowledge ofcurrent Wisconsin criminal codes and laws. Strong interest in theapplication of community policing methods.
