Assistant ScientistThe Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Assistant Scientist to support the Understanding Gulf Ocean Systems (UGOS) Consortium. The selected candidate will contribute to research at the intersection of oceanography and fisheries, with a focus on larval dispersal, recruitment, and connectivity in the Gulf of Mexico. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS The successful candidate will:u2022Interpret and statistically analyze complex biological and oceanographic datasetsu2022Develop and test hypotheses related to physical-biological interactions and recruitment variabilityu2022Conduct simulations using coupled physical-biological models for larval dispersalu2022Collaborate with academic and federal researchers across the UGOS Consortiumu2022Present research at scientific meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSu2022Ph.D. in physical oceanography or related fieldu2022At least 1 year of relevant postdoctoral experienceu2022Strong background in oceanographic modeling, statistical analysis, and data interpretationu2022Demonstrated programming experience including MATLAB, R and Fortran, along with experience with High Performing Computing (HPC) environments.u2022Peer-reviewed publication recordu2022Strong written and verbal communication skillsu2022Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team Please submit a statement of interest, CV, and the names of three professional references.
