Job Description BAE Systems is seeking a Civil Engineer to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navyfacility development, recapitalization, and construction projects. About the program: Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy s Strategic Systems Program (SSP) continually since the program s inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and as the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation s nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy. Position Description and Responsibilities: This civil engineering candidate will assist in military construction (MILCON) project development, compliance reviews, constructability reviews and ensuring SSP specific requirements are incorporated into the civil portion of various design phases of the MILCON projects. BAE Systems is seeking an entry-level civil engineer to support our work as a prime contractor on high-profile U.S Navy weapon systems. This civil engineer will support the Navy Program Manager responsible for Strategic Systems Planning (SSP) Facilities Acquisition at TRIDENT Submarine Bases, primarily at Kings Bay, Georgia and Bangor, Washington. The selected candidate will support technical peer reviews of architectural/engineering design submittals, support the develop of unique SSP facility requirements & testing criteria, and perform constructability reviews of A/E produced design documentation. Candidate will also provide input and assist in the development of engineering study reports and help coordinate and resolve facility design/integration issues. The specific duties and responsibilities of a civil engineer involve a wide range of tasks related to the design, analysis, and evaluation of facilities. Here is an overview of the key responsibilities: + Review engineering design and documents and confirming specifications developed by others. + Support construction projects by studying and developing project concept, architectural drawings, and models. + Support development of Military Construction project development by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data. + Determine project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs. + Create feasibility studies by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data. + Review and comment on engineering documents prepared by others to include construction specifications, plans, and schedules. + Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests. + Maintain project databases by imputing data into computer programs (entering data) and completing backups. + Contribute to team efforts to accomplish tasks as needed. + Codes and Regulations: Candidate is responsible for staying updated on civil codes, regulations, and standards relevant to civil design. They must ensure that their designs comply with local, national, and international codes and regulations governing civil safety, accessibility, fire protection, stormwater management, and other applicable requirements. + Collaboration and Coordination: Candidate is responsible for collaboration with architects, other engineers, and construction professionals to verify integrated civil design are provided for the projects. They will coordinate with other engineering disciplines, such as structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, to ensure compatibility and coordination between different systems within the project. + The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with the development of comprehensive Military Construction (MILCON) documentation and construction cost estimates. Additionally, the selected candidate will provide technical peer reviews of design submittals, will develop Facilities Evaluation Testing Criteria, and will perform construction monitoring and conduct/prepare engineering reports and will make recommendations to solve Facilities issues. The candidate will be required to maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. #LI-VW1 #LI-Onsite Required Education, Experience, & Skills Required Education, Experience & Skills Bachelor s degree in civil engineering from an ABET Accredited program preferred OR equivalent education and related facility structural experience required. Must be proficient with MS Office Suite programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams Professionalism + Excellent interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with colleagues, auditors, customers and vendors. + Good planning, time management and organization skills. Communication + Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills General: + Engineer-in-Training certification is NOT required but desired. Technical knowledge and proficiency: + Knowledge of/experience with standard stormwater regulations is preferred + Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) preferred + Experience in the development of design packages for construction RFPs preferred Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $64926 - $110374 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
