Description This position is responsible for the managerial direction, leadership, development and growth of the Transmission Line department in the Great Lakes Region (GLR) Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Chicago Office. This role will report to GLRu2019s Operations Director and will work closely with current GLR T&D Transmission line managers, the other GLR T&D leadership team, and the national Transmission Line leadership team. In addition to the duties below, this position will continue to carry out Transmission Line engineering and/or project management assignments. Specific areas of responsibility for this position include the following, with other duties assigned by senior management as needed: Organizational + Advocate for safety within the business line and drive a culture focused on safety and compliance with company, regional, and site safety policies. + Actively foster a culture based on our MacCulture principles, quality, diversity and inclusion, and team cohesion and camaraderie. + Provide overall leadership to the team through effective communication, empowering others, and servant leadership. + Responsible for fostering a healthy, vibrant, and inclusive employee-owner culture within the team through the leverage of sound team-building practices, the promotion and administration of effective conflict resolution, the promotion of ownership mentality, a healthy work-life balance, and community engagement. + Develop and lead initiatives that foster an innovation culture that challenges the norm and utilizes tools, technology, and processes to drive continuous improvement and efficiency. + Accountable for the development of leadership within the department and for assisting with the overall leadership development within GLR T&D. Proactively communicate to staff the vision, expectations, requirements, processes, and guidelines to meet department, global practice and company objectives. + Interpret and support established policies, procedures, purposes, and strategic goals for the department and GLR T&D Global Practice to staff. + Build strong partnerships and relationships with the super region teams, Kansas City and other regional office teams, including the Burns & McDonnell India and Mexico City teams. Collaboration / Growth + Facilitate profitable and sound growth of the department by coordinating with management to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance. This includes coordination of resources with all other GLR transmission line offices. + Proactively share information with the department through MacCentral and department meetings and continually look for ways to better disseminate the information. + Make intentional efforts to maintain personal technical proficiency and connection to the core business line and various segments. + Regularly coordinate and collaboratewith GLR T&D business line management, technical management, account management, project management, and other leads to build cohesion and tie the needs of our people tothe needs of our business. + Develop and maintain a strong relationship with national business line management, PMs, segment leads, and other key leadership to support the development of our people. + Pursue alignment and support of all location office efforts and initiatives. Resource Management + Work in various recruiting channels including but not limited to HR Recruiting team, staffing agencies, staff referrals, and direct communication to proactively recruit the best candidates that align with MacCulture principles, department needs, growth strategies and business objectives and retainage of staff. + Utilizes the GLR T&D recruiting guidelines to purposefully interview, assess and hire prospective candidates while remaining diligent to uncover and combat unconscious bias throughout the entire interview process. + Support HR on educational partnerships and internship programs. + Support the Assistant Department Managers and the early careers recruiting team to drive recruiting efforts at colleges and universities in the region. + Responsible for onboarding processes for those transitioning into the Transmission Line department. This includes but is not limited to contract employees, interns, new grads, experienced hires, transfers and converted contracted employees. + Support the development and integration of a strong Burns & McDonnell India team and Mexico City team dedicated to the support of GLR projects. + Proactively applies established retention measures and strategies, including continuously educating the department about the various career paths offered within T&D and working with department staff to help them develop the knowledge, skills, abilities and opportunities to pursue their desired career path. + Coordinating team and mentor assignments of department staff with the Transmission Line Business Line Manager, Assistant Department Managers, Technical Manager, project managers, and project engineers for the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. + Responsible for timecard approvals, oversight, and management of chargeability and proper investments of overhead labor and costs. + Review employee performance and conduct development meetings (90-day and annual performance appraisals, mid-year reviews, coaching sessions, etc.). + Work with Human Resources and staff to identify, prepare, communicate, and monitor performance plans for employees with areas of needed improvement. + Advocate for staff by meeting regularly, listening, and helping to implement their short- and long-term goals, providing guidance, direction, and facilitation of opportunities to meet those goals. + Support the Assistant Department Managers in their management duties and provide mentorship to the Assistant Department Managers for their career growth. Technical/Execution/Production + Serve as technical advisor, providing senior level input and evaluation on Transmission Line related items. + Monitor progress on department-related initiatives and provide input into areas of concern and direction/redirection to enhance achievement of quality, productivity and budgets. + Act as a leader in innovation and use of new technology tools across all project teams. + Advance and develop department tools and workflows to increase department efficiencies and quality. + Support the Technical Manager in driving a culture of quality and continuous improvement across all GLR T&D. + Transmission Line offices and affiliated projects. + Support the Technical Manager in advocating for quality and ensure that the corporate and T&D quality initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers. + Responsible for QA/QC on Transmission Line projects as needed to support department staff. + Work with the Technical Manager in identifying training needs for the department and support/develop training programs. Collaborate with other departments on shared training. Business Line Support + Assist the business line with achieving Objectives and Key Results. Including the development and execution of business line plans. + Partner with the Transmission Line Business Line Manager to drive the diversification of clients and services for the department. + Support the development of proposal documentation while collaborating with management and marketing teams. + Promote and support key initiatives in coordination with senior management. + Serve in key project support roles for identified clients and/or new clients where required, and where new business is being developed. Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related field from an ABET-accredited program. + Minimum seven (7) years of related professional experience in design and/or project management. + Registration as a professional engineer or currently pursuing professional registration strongly preferred. + Previous consulting experience strongly preferred. + Proven leadership in developing and implementing vision that has brought positive impact. + Proven collaboration, facilitation and organization problem-solving skills in previous roles. + Demonstrated experience in mentoring and team development. + Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems. + This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified technical knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. + Demonstrated knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, including Ecosys, Microsoft Projects, Power BI, and other data modeling systems preferred. + Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, project execution, design team coordination and communication, budgeting, schedule management, safety, quality and client coordination preferred. + Demonstrated financial success on completed projects. + Demonstrated experience in the pursuit and proposal process. + Demonstrated experience in client and business development. + Excellent written & verbal communication skills and able to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. + Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, collaboration, organization, and critical thinking skills. + Strong planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills. + Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively. + Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. + Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise, and discernment. Compensation $150,000.00-340,000.00 Yearly The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
