Harriman Campus City Albany State NY Zip Code 12227 Duties Description The Deputy Commissioner for Tax Audits is responsible for leading the tax audit function for New York State. The Deputy Commissioner helps determine the departmentu2019s strategies to evolve and develop tax enforcement to meet the challenges of the future. The Deputy Commissioner is charged with fulfilling the Audit Divisionu2019s mission to conduct the highest quality tax audits to determine the correct amount of tax due.Specific Duties include:u2022 Lead over 1,100 staff responsible for fair and effective tax audits;u2022 Manage the development, execution, and measurement of audit programs that effectively use department resources; u2022 Position the department to incorporate technology to modernize and improve tax auditing practices;u2022 Establish policies and procedures for the conduct of audits to ensure they are performed efficiently, and taxpayers are treated fairly and consistently; u2022 Participate in the strategic decision-making process on department or division wide initiatives and ensure the Division is aligned with Department priorities; u2022 Represent the Department at meetings of various professional groups, civic groups, and other groups involved with the tax audit process. u2022 Represent the Division in discussions with the Division of Budget and other control agencies;u2022 Develop and maintain a strong professional development program to provide for continuous improvement, retention and succession planning. Minimum Qualifications The selected candidate must have ten years of specialized experience with tax audits in the public or private sector.
