The Opportunity with McKinstry We are seeking a Building Automation Service Technician to join our team as a member of our growing Southeast Facility Operations division located in Tampa, FL. The Building Automation Service Technician is responsible for onsite troubleshooting, service, and support of large-scale Building Automation Systems (BAS). This role is primarily field-based and requires a self-motivated technician who can work independently, diagnose system-level issues, and implement minor programming and graphics updates. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Niagara and Distech controls platforms and is comfortable supporting complex, enterprise-level BAS environments. Additional responsibilities include: + u00b7Perform onsite troubleshooting and service of large BAS systems across commercial, institutional, or campus-style facilities. + Diagnose and resolve system, controller, network, and field device issues. + Execute minor programming modifications and point-level logic changes within Niagara and Distech platforms. + Make minor graphics updates and adjustments as needed to support operations and user requirements. + Commission replacement controllers and devices as part of service work. + Interface with facility staff, project managers, and remote support teams to resolve issues efficiently. + Document service activities, findings, and resolutions clearly and accurately. + Identify opportunities for system improvements, repairs, or future upgrades and communicate findings to leadership. + Follow company standards, safety procedures, and best practices while working independently in the field. What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry: _Required Qualifications_ + 4u20136 years of hands-on experience in HVAC controls / Building Automation Systems. + Strong working knowledge of Niagara Framework (N4). + Experience with Distech Controls hardware and software. + Proven ability to troubleshoot BAS systems independently in the field. + Understanding of HVAC systems, sequences of operation, and control strategies. + Ability to make minor programming changes and basic graphic edits. + Comfortable working in live, operational environments. + Strong problem-solving and communication skills _Preferred Qualifications_ + Experience supporting large or campus-wide BAS systems. + Familiarity with IP networking concepts related to BAS (BACnet/IP, MSTP, VLANs, etc.). + Prior service or field technician background in institutional or commercial facilities. _Work Environment_ Primarily onsite fieldwork with limited office time. Work may occur in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active facilities. Requires the ability to work independently and manage service calls efficiently. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
