The Work You Will Do: Survey & R/W Mapping Manager / Survey and Mapping Office The Surveying & Right of Way Mapping Manager is responsible for leading and managing the Central Surveying and Mapping Office's Surveying and Right of Way Mapping Section. This role involves supervising employees, developing and implementing rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines, and managing the Florida Permanent Reference Network (FPRN). The manager also provides support and liaison to the Surveying and Mapping Program Area statewide, leads training programs, supports the Procurement Office, organizes statewide meetings, and assists in legislative and policy development. Additionally, the manager performs as an expert witness in proceedings involving static surveying and Right of Way mapping. Where You Will Work: Florida Department of Transportation Survey and Mapping Office 605 Suwannee Street Tallahassee, Florida 32399 Your Specific Responsibilities: Supervises employees by communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employeesu2019 work. Lead and manage the Central Surveying and Mapping Office's Surveying and R/W Mapping Section in the production of rules, policies, procedures, manuals, and guidelines. Responsible for the management of the Florida Permanent Reference Network (FPRN). Strive to meet the established professional, technical, and business goals and objectives. Take a lead role in research and development of Surveying and Mapping Technologies, Processes, and Practices. Provide support and liaison to the Surveying and Mapping Program Area statewide. This includes the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District staff and Consultant Partners by identifying and meeting customer needs in processes, equipment, software, and quality assurance in support of the FDOT's Work Program. Lead and develop training programs that support the Surveying and Mapping business as well as professional and technical development of Surveying and Mapping staff statewide. Support the Procurement Office in development of surveying and mapping work groups, as well as evaluating consultant requests for pre-qualification in established Surveying and Mapping Work Groups. Organize and lead statewide Surveying and Mapping meetings for the purpose of district and industry coordination and address input concerning surveying and mapping issues for all stakeholders. Assist in the research, development, review and implementation of legislation, rules, policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, and specifications for Department surveying and mapping and other issues. Perform as expert witness in proceedings involving static surveying and R/W mapping. The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: + L and, hydrographic, and remote sensing surveying terminology, principles, practices, tools, and techniques. + Engineering techniques. + Principles and practices of supervision and management. + Budgetary process. Skills in: + Preparing boundary surveys, right of way control surveys, and right of way maps. Ability to: + Supervise people effectively. + Analyze and interpret land surveying and/or hydrographic data. + Perform land surveying calculations. + Solve problems relating to land surveying. + Serve as an expert witness. + Determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments. + Manage a land surveying program. + Understand and apply applicable statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. + Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize and direct land surveying program activities. + Assess budgetary needs. + Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. + Use word processing, database, and spreadsheet software. + Use Surveying and Mapping related hardware and software for data collection, data processing and dissemination. + Prepare technical reports on complex projects. + Give public presentations, lectures, and reports.
