POSITION TITLE: Health/Nutrition CoordinatorDEPARTMENT: Early Care and EducationFLSA STATUS: ExemptREPORTS TO: Director of EducationGENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESThe purpose of this position is to support the Agency’s needs by providingHealth and Nutritional services to families and children of Early Care and Education. Provide training to parents and staff when needed, assist with various tasks and maintain reporting on all services provided to children.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThe list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.Coordinate delivery of health-related services for children.Develop and maintain care plans for children with medical conditions. Ensure needed medical treatment per doctor's orders.Provide education to families, children, and staff on health, nutrition and safety.Assist families with resources for dental and medical providers and work with Social Service staff to arrange health care appointments and to assist families in securing such services.Ensure timely written parental authorization for all health services.Distribute a written plan of action for medical and dental emergencies to all centers.Follow up on lab results (HGB, HCT, Lead, TB) and dental for children.Assist children with nutritional concerns (food allergies and weight issues). Collaborate with Registered Dietitian to develop and maintain care plans for children with complex allergies or nutritional needs.Check enrollment files for Px, immunizations, health/nutrition history.Maintain children's health files and update Px and immunizations and record data in Child Plus.Monitor hand washing and dental hygiene as needed.Prepare yearly immunization survey for state of Connecticut.Provide OSHA, CPR, and First Aid training for staff as needed.Assist staff with DCF reporting.Assure strict confidentially of all information.Establish effective communications with teachers, parents and other staff members.ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONSAttend prestart meetings for medically fragile children.Use community resources to network with other agencies in the Hartford/Middlesex community.Monitor supplies, inventory, and storage. Deliver equipment (first aid kits, toothbrushes, etc.) to classrooms.Update and report to Instructional Leader, Assistant Director or designee staff that are in need of certifications including CPR, first aid and medication, epi-pen. Ensure Unit Managers receive copies.Attend courses, in-service trainings and professional workshops to maintain Registered Dietitian status and for continued professional growth. Maintain documentation of continuing education.Ensure safe working environment and follow all agency safety procedures and reporting.Perform all other duties as assigned.MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEEducation: Bachelor's degree in Public Health/Community Health, Nursing, Nutrition or a related field required.Minimum Years of Experience: Work experience in Early Care and Education preferred.Demonstrated Skills: Database and Microsoft Office competency required.Driving Requirement: YES Agency Vehicle: NO Employee’s Own Vehicle: YESActive driver license in good standing required upon hire and throughout employment. Some use of personal vehicle required.Physical and TB Required: YES - Physical required upon hire and every 2 years. TB required upon hire.ADA COMPLIANCEPhysical Ability:Tasks involve sedentary to light work, involving some reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling of objects and materials.Sensory Requirements:Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.Environmental Factors:Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.M-F 8a-4p
