Job Description

Under the general direction of the Childcare Director and consistent with the mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Childcare Food Coordinator is responsible for the safety and well-being of all children participating in the program.Retaining a personal commitment to YMCA philosophy and the ability to implement values and education as role modelsAssuring the safety, health, and welfare of the childrenBeing responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of the YMCA and any area the children useReporting to work promptlyBeing well-groomed at all times and reporting to work properly dressedKeeping the director informed of any kitchen problems Organizing and maintaining the kitchen area, materials, and supplies,Keeping the director advised of equipment and materials that need to be repaired or replacedKeeping all required reports pertaining to the nutrition and food programBuilding good communications with other staff to create a professional atmosphereAttending pre-employment and in-service training as requiredUnderstanding N.C. Child Day Care RequirementsDaily prepare snacks and food served to children and staffUnderstand general nutritional requirements with a working knowledge of meal patterns required in NC. Childcare ProgramsDevelop weekly menus which meet the RDA requirements and to record substitutionsKeep food utensils, dishes used in food preparation clean, and any equipment in the kitchen cleanUnderstand and maintain the environment health sanitation requirementsArrange with Director to order weekly food items, bulk items, and paper goods Any other duties assigned by the Childcare Director or the Executive DirectorEnsures all staff understand and volunteers understand and comply with YMCA abuse prevention policies, actively monitors staff interactions with participants, addresses boundary violations, and ensures prompt reporting of concerns in accordance with YMCA policy and state lawOther duties as assignedA sincere appreciation for and interest in children, strong desire to work with children in the childcare settingFirst Aid, CPR, current negative TB test, medical exam, fingerprint check, criminal records checkKnowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facilityUnderstanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility and childcare programMust be responsive to members and program participantsMust be at least 18 years of ageHave or working towards attaining a High School Diploma/GEDMust have strong oral and written communication skills with volunteers, members, and parentsEmployee Assistance ProgramRetirement Contribution once eligibleUSD $11.00 - USD $13.00 /Hr.
