ABOUT THE POSITIONVHB’s Transit and Rail Co-op - Boston, MA is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The intern program is designed to round out participants’ academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.Co-op terms generally run from June - December 2026.Co-ops will work on electrical engineering projects and will learn technical skills and computational software with relation to railroad and transit signal systems.ResponsibilitiesEffectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely mannerEngineering calculationsPreliminary and final design plansContract documents including specificationsEngineer's estimatesPreparing construction documentsProduce/draw railway signal design drawings in CADSurvey of existing signal equipment on the MBTA's transit and/or heavy rail linesSkills and AttributesExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with clientsSelf-motivated with attention to detailExposure to CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCADQualificationsCurrently pursuing undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern UniversityMust have the ability to conduct tasks independentlyStrong interest in electrical engineeringOur best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in Massachusetts is $19 to $30 per hour.
