Our Technologist are integral members of inter-professional teams in hospitals and clinics that are committed to outstanding patient care, driven by their expertise, compassion and operate at a higher level of practice . + Assist Surgeons and nurses with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique and surgical procedures in the operating room. + Observes patients for symptoms which may indicate a change in condition and reports to appropriate member of medical team for immediate action. + Prepares tissue and other specimens for lab analysis. + Maintains the inventory of sterile surgical supplies to ensure their immediate availability. + Prepares the operating room for surgery by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment; obtains special supplies indicated by physician. + Follows procedures for pre and post-operative accounting of sharps, sponges and instruments used in the surgical set up. + Accountable for the care and handling of instruments and equipment. + Maintains inventory of sterile surgical supplies to ensure immediate availability. + Operates sterilization equipment for the proper sterilization of surgical instruments. + Follows established sterilization policy and procedures. + May assist with the completion of patient records and other required medical forms. + Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the principles of sterile technique and infection control; practices appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment. + Appropriately cleans surgical instruments and equipment. Performs related responsibilities as required. + Individuals are not yet able to float between specialties. Minimum Qualifications: + A high school diploma or equivalent preferred. + Successful completion of a surgical technician training program or equivalent job training. + Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required. . JOIN OUR TEAM TODAY At Emory University Hospital Midtown our Perioperative Surgical Department consist of 28 OR suites with 3 to 4 designated for cardiovascular cases. Our service lines include General, GYN, Urology, Bariatrics, Robotics, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Podiatry, ENT, Skull Base, OMFS, Plastics, and CVOR. We are staffed 365 day a year. There can be some late, on call and/or holiday requirements as well as a rotation to cover overnight shifts and weekend shifts for those dedicated teams.There is an orientation period of8-12 weeks, depending on experience.
