Yes County Albany Street Address State Campus, Bldg 5, Ground City Albany State NY Zip Code 12226 Duties Description Under the supervision of an Information Technology Specialist 4 within the Digital Transformation Office, Geospatial Services Bureau, Enterprise Services Section this UI/UX design position will participate in the development of applications as well as products creating user-friendly, visually appealing digital interfaces by conducting user research, designing wireframes/prototypes, and collaborating with developers to ensure seamless, accessible, and efficient user experiences across websites and apps, focusing on both functionality (UX) and aesthetics (UI). Key responsibilities include user interviews, testing, creating design systems, and translating requirements into intuitive flows and interactive mockups using tools like Figma or Sketch, with an eye on accessibility and modern design trends. Specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:u2022 User Research: Conduct interviews, analyze data, and create user personas to understand needs and pain points. u2022 Wireframing & Prototyping: Develop site maps, user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes. u2022 Visual Design (UI): Design graphic elements, navigation components, and overall look and feel. u2022 Usability Testing: Plan and execute tests to identify issues and gather feedback for improvements. u2022 Collaboration: Work with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to implement designs. u2022 Design Standards: Establish and maintain design guidelines, best practices, and accessibility (WCAG) compliance. u2022 Tools: Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision. u2022 Principles: Strong understanding of User-Centered Design (UCD), design thinking, and agile methodologies. u2022 Technical (Bonus): Familiarity with HTML/CSS and front-end frameworks. u2022 Soft Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and visual design skills. Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive: A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science. OR A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology; OR 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology. OR Two years of professional experience in information technology. Promotion: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, Salary Grade (SG) 14. Transfer: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 or Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming, G-18; OR in a title G-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. 55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and candidates are encouraged to apply. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
