Job Title: Test Technician Location: Baltimore, Maryland Type: Contract To Hire Compensation: $24 - $24 hourly Contractor Work Model: Onsite Main Accountabilities Core purpose : This is a classification performing skilled, repair and modification on all electronic and electro-mechanical systems and components found in transit light and heavy rail vehicles. Incumbents work independently according to accepted standards of the trade, supervisory direction, Company established procedures, practices, and specifications. Incumbents may also provide on-site trouble assessment, response and adjustment of revenue vehicles. This class of technicians work specifically to test, troubleshoot, and repair electro-mechanical and electronic systems and components found on transit revenue vehicles. Under general supervision, performs skilled, test, troubleshooting, repair, and modification to a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment and components found in heavy and light rail vehicles; performs related work as assigned. Main Tasks & Responsibilities: u2022 Following a pre-established schedule, testing and adjustment of electronic, electronical and mechanical systems found on transit vehicles. Including those associated with propulsion, train control, pneumatic supply and brake control, air conditioning, annunciation, communications, door control, lighting, and auxiliary electrical supply. u2022 Troubleshoots and performs primary performance verification on such systems, removing and replacing components as required to achieve manufacturer specifications. u2022 Records all findings accurately in provided Test Reports, for inclusion into Car History Books that follow each completed vehicle. u2022 Performs modifications to rail vehicle electronic and electro-mechanical systems, as directed by engineering and supervisory staff. u2022 Works with engineering and other production staff regarding modifications. u2022 Uses diagnostic test equipment and precision measuring devices in the course of the work; may fabricate new testing equipment as required for use on new components and systems. u2022 Performs secondary dismantling and repair of electronic and electro-mechanical systems. u2022 Verifies performance of new or modified systems or equipment. u2022 Works closely with transit vehicle mechanics in troubleshooting problems and performing primary repairs. u2022 Reads and interprets diagrams, engineering drawings, manuals, schematics and work orders. u2022 Measures, tests and inspects completed work to confirm adherence to specifications. u2022 Documents work performed and parts and materials used; follows specified safety procedures. Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications u2022 2+ yrs experience, desired in light rail or Aviation environment. u2022 Experience in low and high voltage (VDC), medium voltage (VAC) and relay logic. u2022 Experience in the use of test related equipment i.e., digital multi meters, pneumatic gauges, current probes etcu2026. u2022 Must own and maintain a basic hand tool set. u2022 Experience in precision measuring equipment i.e., caliper, micrometer, pie tape, etcu2026. u2022 Experience in electrical crimp and mechanical torque techniques. u2022 Must have experience working within and maintaining a safe work environment. u2022 Experience with working in diverse and busy team environments. u2022 Must speak, read and write English. u2022 High School graduate or equivalent. u2022 College/Technical trade education is preferred. u2022 Ability to read drawings, blueprints and diagrams. u2022 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. u2022 Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure and against deadlines. u2022 Excellent interpersonal skills in a team environment. u2022 Must be able to read and understand work orders. u2022 Must be able to read and perform procedures. u2022 Must be able to diagnose and make various electrical & mechanical adjustments using provided procedures. u2022 Attention to quality control and customer service. u2022 Computer skills must include at least basic levels for MS Word and Excel. u2022 Ability to lift up to 30 to 50 lbs. QUALIFICATIONS: u2022 Diagnosing and repairing operational problems in a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical systems, components and equipment. u2022 Performing modifications to electronic systems and components. u2022 Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, diagrams, manuals and work orders. u2022 Using and maintaining hand and power tools and testing equipment of the trade. u2022 Understanding and following oral and written directions. u2022 Maintaining accurate records of work performed and materials used. u2022 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work. u2022 Basic operating principles of analog and digital electronics, electrical and electronic circuitry, and associated mechanical mechanisms, methods, equipment and materials used in the primary maintenance and repair of a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical systems, components and equipment. u2022 Use and care of testing and power and hand tools of the trade. u2022 Troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques. Shop arithmetic as required for the trade. u2022 Safety practices pertaining to the work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: u2022 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. u2022 The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: u2022 This position works in a warehouse/production environment. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. u2022 The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where certain areas require.
