Job Description Position Summary: The Athletics Mental Health and Performance Clinician operates within a Division I Intercollegiate Athletics program, dedicated to academic and athletic excellence, and will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Mental Health and Performance with support from the CSUHN Assistant Director of Outreach and Embedded Services. The role involves providing comprehensive psychological services to varsity student athletes. The successful candidate will serve as a licensed mental health clinician dedicated to cultivating a culture of psychological wellness and resilience within the Athletics Department. The professional provides consulting and outreach services to student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and administrative personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individuals and teams. A key function is enhancing participation and performance by teaching psychological principles and strategies necessary to achieve optimal mental health and consistently improve sports performance. This position will be assigned as the point of contact for specific teams. Essential Job Duties: + Maintain clinical and sport psychology caseload in a variety of formats with the purpose of evaluating, diagnosing, and treating mental health disorders and relevant sport-performance opportunities, consistent with the level of care required for a successful Division I student-athlete + Work in a collaborative environment to include sports medicine staff, team physicians, CSU Health Network staff, coaches, and others responsible for the healthcare and overall development of student-athletes + Maintain accurate psychological records in accordance with departmental guidelines and compliance with applicable state and federal regulations + Serve as responder and care coordinator for mental health crises and emergencies by facilitating level of care and coordinating with campus and community resources + Serve as the mental health and performance point of contact for assigned teams to facilitate workshops, teach psychological skills for high performance, consult with coaches, staff, and other constituents + Assist department with educational programs and presentations for athletics staff and coaches related to mental health, peak performance, and thriving within elite athletics + Understand and comply with state and federal regulations regarding the provision of mental health services, and incorporate considerations provided by the NCAA and conference as applicable + Maintain good standing and licensure within the state of Colorado as a mental health provider. Participate in continuing education that facilitates relevant skill development and participate in multidisciplinary conferences + Integrate social determinants of health and student-athlete identities into care and services Conditions of Employment: + Pre-employment Criminal Background Check + Essential Services Designation - Ability and willingness to respond to campus crises after hours + Special Requirements - The CSU Health Network follows CDC guidelines for Employee Health in a healthcare setting, including proof of vaccinations. Minimum Qualifications: + Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field from an institution of higher education + Two years of post-graduate experience practicing in the field of Psychology or Mental Health + Licensed or licensed within six months as a Professional Counselor (LPC), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Psychologist in the state of Colorado + Experience in providing psychological/counseling services to Division I student-athletes or athletes with comparable competitive levels Preferred Qualifications: + Ph.D. or Psy.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. Preferred doctoral program/internship accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) + Three years of work experience in intercollegiate or professional athletics + Experience in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluation of effective programs for assisting student-athletes at the NCAA Division I level or equivalent + Clinical experience with substance misuse and disordered eating in a student-athlete population + Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) + Consultation experience within a university athletics department + Knowledge of psychological theories, assessment tools, treatment planning, and student development + Knowledge about, understanding of, and experience with supporting persons impacted by social determinants of health + Demonstrated excellence in organizational skills, written, presentation, and group facilitation skills Application Instructions: CSU is committed to full inclusion of qualified individuals.
