Interviews consumers, collects data, and computesbudgets; records and documents information; accesses, prepares andinputs all data into the statewide computer processing system. Take a look to see if the role of an Economic SupportSpecialist might be right for you: Economic Support Specialist PositionVideo - YouTube Essential Duties Conducts interviews with clients toobtain financial and non-financial information necessary to determineeligibility, clarifies discrepancies; and analyzes the needs of theclient in order to make necessary referrals to other programs. Secures,analyzes, interprets, and determines validity of client statements anddocumentation such as legal documents, income tax forms, real estatecontracts, evidence of immigration status, trust documents, andfinancial, medical and employment records; and identifies andinvestigates questionable information. Determines initial and continuedeligibility and benefits level within specific time limits throughreviewing and monitoring the income and assets of clients, analyzing andapplying complex program rules, reconciling benefit levels and ensuringthat timely written notification is sent citing appropriate regulationsor statutes for granting or denying benefits. Prepares and monitorsclients' monthly budget computations using complex mathematicalformulas, analysis of automated reports and detailed bookkeepingprocedures. Utilizes multiple complex computer programs and databases torecord, research, investigate and verify information; to assist incomputing benefit levels; and to record and monitor case activity.Examples include CARES, CWW, KIDS, Forward Health Portal, and SAVE.Establishes and maintains electronic and paper case files to ensure thatassistance history, verification, documentation and correspondenceaccurately reflect benefit issuances and error corrections. Answersquestions from and provides information and explanations to clients,department staff, and other agencies regarding financial assistance andrights and responsibilities; assists clients in completing forms; andendeavors to adjust complaints. Researches and prepares written summaryand appears as the agency representative at administrative hearingsrelated to the denial, termination, or reduction of economic assistanceto a client. Analyzes applications and re-certifications identified aserror prone; refers appropriate cases for investigation. Develops andmaintains effective working and public relations with County employees,community representatives, contract staff, clients, families and thepublic. Considerable knowledge of thesocio-economic factors in the community and ability to relatesensitively to diverse populations. Ability to interpret, analyze andapply federal, state and local laws, regulations, policies andprocedures regarding economic assistance programs. Ability to establishand maintain effective working relationships with clients, families,community agencies, county staff, governmental agencies, contract staff,medical or day-care vendors and the general public. Ability to utilizeinvestigative interviewing to obtain necessary information from clients,verification sources and other agencies to maintain detailed records.Ability to perform complex mathematical computations and interpretfinancial and other complex documents. Ability to effectivelycommunicate complex information to a diverse group of clients bothorally and in writing.
