Berkley Specialty Excess provides excess and surplus lines coverages for mid-market companies with hard-to place, specialized risks including, environmental (excess and primary); excess energy and excess for other industry verticals to be developed with the possibility of including excess general casualty that involve moderate to high degrees of hazard and require highly negotiated terms to meet buyer's needs. The distribution of products is limited to industry specialized brokers, wholesale for all products and large retail brokers for environmental products.Company URL:https://www.berkleyse.com/The company is an equal opportunity employer.The Chief Actuary is responsible for contributing to the overall strategic direction of the Operating Unit and direct responsibility for the vision and direction for all actuarial and analytical aspects of the Operating Unit.Duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Develop and execute pricing models for new product(s) and coverage(s)Develop and manage portfolio tools and predictive models to ensure profitabilityBuild infrastructure to monitor competitive positionFormulate filing and company placement strategyMonitor emerging issues and trends impacting profitability and appetitePartner on the development of training modules on underwriting guidelines, strategies or emerging issuesEstablish partnership across Operating Units and serve as liaison on Actuary and Analytics issuesEstablish strong Actuary, Data and Analytics governanceDesign and lead Portfolio Reviews in collaboration with Underwriting, Claims and FinancePartner with OU president, segment leader and Ceded reinsurance team to develop a reinsurance buying strategy and to represent the Operating Unit via meetings with the reinsurance marketplace as appropriateCommunicate key information to Operating Unit staff in a timely and efficient mannerMinimum of 10 years of Actuary Experience5+ years of Experience within the Liability suite of products (CGL, Excess, Environmental, Energy, Professional etc.)Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans; that are driven by empirical analysis and include stated goals and delivery datesExperience with filing products and working with state regulatorsExecution oriented with attention to details driven by natural curiosity and competitive spiritMust have strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and interpersonal skillsEducation RequirementBA/BS degree requiredWe do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting agencies or firms.The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:• Base Salary Range: $240,000 – $280,000• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.• Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment..Sponsorship not Offered for this Role
